Teen Wolf: The Movie takes place 15 years after the finale of the series which means fans of the franchise shouldn’t be too surprised that not every “endgame” relationship made it.

One fan favorite ship people were rooting for to still be together was certainly Stydia (Stiles and Lydia). Their romance had been a series long journey with Stiles initially going unnoticed by his heart’s desire until they began to get pulled into supernatural situations thanks to their best friends, Scott and Allison.

Over the course of six seasons, and 100 episodes, Stydia’s connection grew. They began to emotionally rely on one another and fought to be in each other’s lives. So, over a decade down the road in their time, fans were hoping to learn they were still together. Unfortunately that wasn’t the case, but there’s still hope!

Lydia did break up with Stiles, but it wasn’t because she fell out of love with him. Here’s why she decided to walk away from the man she loves.

Why Lydia left Stiles in Teen Wolf: The Movie

Spoilers ahead of Teen Wolf: The Movie

As Lydia explained to her former science teacher turned vengeance seeker, she kept having a recurring dream of Stiles dying. It happened while he was driving. They were hit and thrown from the car but while she survived, he died at the scene.

Because she was unable to differentiate between whether this was a dream or a vision, Lydia figured she’d break up with Stiles in order to ensure she’s never in a car with him again. It’s her desperate attempt to keep him alive even if it means she breaks both of their hearts in the process.
