Why are the Harry Potter movies not on HBO Max? (where to stream)

Everyone knows the famous fantasy film series, Harry Potter! Whether you were, and still are, a fan of the movies or they just weren’t your tune, the films certainly took the world by storm. It’s one of the most popular franchises in the industry.

The productions are adaptations of author J.K. Rowlings books about the titular character. On his eleventh birthday, Harry learns that he has magical powers and finds his way to Hogwarts, an English boarding school for wizards, per the synopsis. And that’s where his adventure begins! Harry will make friends, grow into his powers, learn the truth about his parents’ deaths, and lead to him facing the greatest enemy yet.

There are a total of eight movies in the main franchise. Those are Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, Chamber of Secrets, Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince, Deathly Hollows – Part 1, Deathly Hollows – Part 2.

For all you avid watchers, you may have noticed that the movies are no longer streaming on HBO Max. Where did they go? Why have they been removed? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Why are the Harry Potter movies not on HBO Max?

As of Feb. 1, 2023, all eight of the Harry Potter movies have been removed from HBO Max. Why did that happen? Don’t worry, it’s not because of the recent thinning of content the company has been going through since its merger with Discovery+.

This actually isn’t the first time the films have been removed from the streamer. That’s because HBO Max shares streaming rights with another streaming service. So the two have to “share” the productions and when they’re on each platform since they can’t be on both at the same time. The movies have been jumping back and forth between these two streamers for a couple of years now. And it will most likely continue in the future.

So that means eventually, we’re not sure when, the fantasy film series will be back on HBO Max. But in the meantime, where can you watch them if you just can’t wait for their return onto the streaming service?

Where are the Harry Potter movies streaming?

As of Feb. 1, 2023, all eight of the Harry Potter films are streaming on Peacock. If you don’t have a subscription to the service, then you can do so with either the “Premium” tier for $4.99/month (with ads) or the “Premium Plus” tier for $9.99/month (no ads).

While the main films have a new streaming home for now, you can still watch Fantastic Beats and Where to Find Them, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, and the reunion special, Harry Potter 20th Anniversary: Return to Hogwarts, on HBO Max.
