All of these films are vastly different, and Farrell’s performances in each movie have been lauded by critics as the best part of their respective projects. His last 2022 role as Pádraic Súilleabháin in Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin brought him the most acclaim, including many awards nominations.

With an eclectic career spanning one performance after another, many have clamored for Farrell to get the recognition he deserves at the Academy Awards, especially after dedicating himself to his craft for so long.

Before The Banshees of Inisherin, Colin Farrell had no Oscar nominations. His portrayal of Pádraic Súilleabháin means that this is his very first Oscar nomination. While many believe he deserves to win the Oscar, this year’s competition is quite fierce, with Brendan Fraser’s performance in The Whale and Austin Butler’s iconic portrayal of Elvis Presley emerging as the frontrunners.

However, Farrell did win the Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical for his performance as Pádraic, which could mean he has a slight chance at snagging the Academy Award. But it seems to be a tight race between Fraser and Butler at the Screen Actors Guild Awards. Fraser won big at the Critics Choice Awards, while Butler won both a Golden Globe and a BAFTA, now making him the frontrunner to win the SAG and possibly the Oscar.

The odds say that Farrell will also return as The Penguin in The Batman – Part 2 which will release in cinemas on October 3, 2025. The Batman was nominated for three Academy Awards in 2023, which could mean that its sequel may have a higher chance at getting nominated for more Oscars, if the film is as good (if not better) than its predecessor. And if Farrell’s performance in The Penguin and The Batman‘s sequel will be as good as the first film, he may have a chance after all at major recognition.
