Tom Cruise is one of the most recognizable action stars in Hollywood and often a highlight for many fans when he takes to the red carpet. While his looks might not always be the most flashy, Cruise has long been a staple on the red carpet during award seasons due to the fact that he’s been attached to many acclaimed films over the years including this year’s Best Picture nominee, Top Gun: Maverick.

If you’re hoping to see Tom Cruise at the 2023 Oscars, we regret to inform you that Cruise is not in attendance at this year’s Academy Awards. It’s a surprising move from Cruise given that Top Gun: Maverick is nominated for Best Picture this year and his absence is one that many fans are curious about. So why exactly isn’t Cruise at the Academy Awards tonight?

Why isn’t Tom Cruise at the Oscars? (2023)

Although Top Gun: Maverick is nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars, you won’t see its star Tom Cruise in attendance for one simple reason. Cruise has opted not to appear at the Oscars as he’s currently in the UK working on a new project.

According to Deadline, Cruise is skipping the 2023 Oscars due to the fact that he recently returned to the UK and chose not to fly back to the US simply to attend the Oscars, which makes total sense. Should Top Gun: Maverick pull off a major upset tonight and win Best Picture, it’ll be Jerry Bruckheimer who will accept the award on the film’s behalf.
