Bob’s Burgers sometimes has a two-for-one special and that’s exactly what we’re getting from the show’s next two episodes.

While we know how great the show is on the big screen, it’s nice to get an hour-long feature even if the episodes aren’t connected. It does leave a lot of room for things to talk about.

In honor of the series giving us two episodes back-to-back, I’m bringing back my Belcher battles. This is where I have two episodes facing off against each other to decide which one is better. Obviously, this is subjective and is all in good fun so let’s break down the two episodes.

The two episodes that aired back-to-back were “What a (April) Fool Believes” and “Crows Encounters of the Bird Kind.” If you haven’t watched either episode of Bob’s Burgers, then this is your spoiler warning.

Bob’s Burgers started with “What a (April) Fool Believes” and here’s what happened.

The episode begins with the Belcher family starting off April Fool’s Day by pranking each other and Bob sharing that Mr. Fischoeder pranks him every year. He shows up at the restaurant and Bob anticipates his prank which is a trick painting Mr. Fischoeder commissioned. To mix things up, he feels bored so he decides to ask Bob to prank him instead.

Bob doesn’t want to prank him and wants to refuse until Mr. Fischoeder tries to show off the restaurant as a rental space. Everyone tries to come up with ideas and Fischoeder even calls to say he wants to “feel something” so they try to talk to Felix and find out one of Fischoeder’s weaknesses which is his golf cart.

Louise and Bob call Teddy who helps them to prank Mr. Fischoeder by rewiring his golf cart to fart when he honks the horn. Things go awry when the brakes on the cart go out and Mr. Fischoeder says Bob is trying to murder him when the paramedics show up. Bob starts feeling anxious that he’s been blackballed by everyone and goes outside for some air but catches Felix riding on Mr. Fischoeder’s golf cart.

Bob figures out that Mr. Fischoeder actually pulled a prank on him and believes everyone around him is pranking him. Bob and Gene decide to go confront Mr. Fischoeder and Felix with Bob telling Mr. Fischoeder he wants him to stop pranking him. The rest of the family goes to find him and we find out Bob actually pranked him by pretending to fall over his balcony while Tina finally gets her fro-yo date with Jimmy Junior.

“Crows Encounters of the Bird Kind” continued the fun and here’s the scoop.

The next episode begins with Tina being upset because she didn’t take Thunder Girls more seriously and she wants the special lightning sash. She decides to go for a badge a day as she needs over 10 more including bird watching so she takes Bob to the park with her where they run into a park ranger.

Tina asks for some advice on how to see more birds and he tells her the things people shouldn’t do so she takes it as a recommendation. Tina decides to buy bread to feed the birds with and has Bob queue up some bird calls while Gene and Louise dare each other to do things which results in Linda wanting to be involved.

While things look good at first, Tina actually ends up attracting a hawk to the area and it decides to grab one of the smaller birds. That results in them being caught by the park ranger but they run away and eventually, hide in the park’s bathroom. Tina feels bad for not listening as the park ranger keeps yelling for them.

Eventually, the ranger finds them hiding together while Tina is incredibly interested in what a crow is doing. The ranger ends up being interested in watching the crow with Tina and even listens to her remorse for using breadcrumbs. The episode ends with Tina and the ranger bonding over the crow and her realizing her sash isn’t nearly as important as having fun.

Which Bob’s Burgers episode won the Battle of the Belchers for Season 13?

Looking at the two episodes, it’s clear Bob’s Burgers is catering to certain viewers with each of these episodes. For “What a (April) Fool Believes,” is more for viewers who watch Bob’s Burgers as a comfort show or if they want to have a laugh. As for “Crows Encounters of the Bird Kind,” the episode feels more heartfelt and sentimental which is something the series never shies away from.

All in all, I have to admire the juxtaposition of these two episodes airing back-to-back. For me though, the clear winner between the two is “What a (April) Fool Believes” because it was so unexpected. I don’t know if anyone else noticed, but it also felt like a nod to the movie which is something the show has been doing this season. While we didn’t have as much backstory into Bob and Mr. Fishoeder’s April Fool’s Day tradition, I thought it was hilarious.

Seeing Mr. Fischoeder continue to prank Bob and him just getting more and more paranoid is surprisingly relatable. It’s also one of the few episodes where Bob gets the last laugh. In a lot of the series, it feels like the joke is always on Bob. This time, he actually got a chance to be part of the joke and I loved it. That’s not to say “Crows Encounters of the Bird Kind” was a bad episode because it wasn’t but it just couldn’t beat out the previous episode.
