Like last week, Bob’s Burgers is airing 2 episodes: one about Louise and other about the restaurant. It’s time for another Belcher Battle: Season 8 finale.

Sadly, it’s that time of year again. Bob’s Burgers is about to wrap up its current season and it will be months before we get new episodes. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves, though.

Similar to last week, the show is airing two episodes on Sunday night. They’re airing at their regular time: 7:30 and then at 9:30. Four Bob’s Burgers episodes in two weeks? Talk about hitting the Belcher jackpot.

Either way, this week is bittersweet as mentioned above. For those who didn’t catch last week, here’s a quick recap. Battle of the Belchers is where I talk about two episodes airing on the same night. I give a brief recap of each, include the high and low points before declaring a winner.

Considering how great season 8 has been, this week will be tough. As you might imagine, there are spoilers from this week’s Bob’s Burgers episodes.

Episode 1: “Mission Impos-slug-ble”

What Happened?: The first episode of the night begins with Louise sharing her Burobu collection with Gene and Tina, explaining her idea for scamming other collectors.  The next day at school, Louise interrupts study buddy time and decides to orchestrate a trade. They trade but Tina tells on them, resulting in their cards being confiscated. Louise turns against Tina and Gene after Tina gives her up and Gene won’t pick a side.

The next day, Rudy and Louise work together, trying to get them back but get stuck in the lounge. The two head to Ms. LaBonz’s house to get the cards back and find out they use their cards for a drinking game. Mr. Frond distracts them until Tina gets caught by LaBonz again. The episode ends with Tina taking the blame, getting the cards back and Louise confessing to her scam.

As for Bob and Linda, Bob gets a call about a former vendor passing away and him requesting Bob to talk at his funeral. Bob shares “the incident” where Bob insulted Harry and his pickles. Linda, Mort and Teddy try to help him before he gets to the funeral. All the people at the funeral make him apologize and Bob gets emotional, talking about Harry.

The Highs: As part 1 of the season finale, Bob’s Burgers set the bar pretty high. This episode not only featured an excellent parody, a hilarious song and awesome character development. It was another Louise episode where she acted like a kid but ended like a young adult. In addition, I loved the underrated relationship moments between Louise and Tina along with Rudy and Louise.

The Lows: The main shortcoming was the plot with Bob. It felt out of place and took away from Louise’s story. The other issue I had was Tina in the first half of the episode. I can’t see her betraying Louise or telling LaBonz so it was a bit out-of-character. Despite that, this was a solid episode to start the night off with.

Episode 2: “Something Old, Something New, Something Bob Caters for You”

What Happened?: The season finale begins with Bob feeling bad about work until he finds out a couple got engaged who had their first date there. The couple asks them to cater their wedding since the restaurant is special to them. Before the wedding, Bob and Linda get the food ready while the kids help set everything up.

The couple invites the Belchers to the wedding, taking them away from the food.  The ceremony is disastrous and Bob feels the pressure of doing a great catering job. Bob gets even more stressed, resulting in him losing cheese and dropping the wedding cake. Linda tries to mold the cake back together and the kids find out who won the photobombing contest.

Linda brings the cake over and the bride has a breakdown. Linda saves the day by reassuring the couple and the episode ends with the family eating cake.

The Highs: As sad as I am about this being the last season 8 episode, Bob’s Burgers went out with a bang. The episode was unique as we saw the family catering a wedding, a couple who met at the restaurant along with a song and the kids being the comic relief.

It was the perfect blend of something old as most moments were based on trademarks of Bob’s Burgers and something new with the premise and the original song.

The Lows: There weren’t many lows for this episode, either. The one low point was Linda’s attitude at the beginning of the episode. It was sort of out-of-character for her to be against the couple and not gung-ho with the wedding. Eventually, she came around but it was strange.

And The Winner Is…”Something Old, Something New, Something Bob Caters for You”

Similar to last week, I adored both episodes. The season finale stood out to me more, though. It was the perfect combo of classic Bob’s Burgers and a few new elements. The family was all together throughout most of the episode and that’s their strong point.

As for “Mission Impos-slug-ble,” it suffered from an unneeded B-storyline. It also featured multiple out-of-character moments, too. I do have to give it props for a solid Pokemon parody and solid character growth. “Something Old, Something New, Something Bob Caters for You” was realistic, sweet and a perfect way to end season 8!

Bob’s Burgers airs Sundays on Fox at 7:30/6:30c.

Any tips for coping during the Bob’s Burgers hiatus? As per usual, I’ll still be covering the show throughout the offseason so be on the lookout!
