What happened to Javi in Yellowjackets? (Season 1 recap)

The highly anticipated second season of Yellowjackets has finally arrived! The addicting Showtime thriller was a pleasant surprise when it first premiered back in late 2021, and fans have been waiting on the edge of their seats with so many questions since watching the season 1 finale. The first episode of season 2 is now streaming, and it proves this installment will be even darker than the first one.

Just like in the premiere season, Yellowjackets season 2 follows two timelines, one in the ’90s with the girls stranded in the wilderness, and one in the present day.

So many shocking events happen in Yellowjackets season 1, it might be difficult to keep up with what’s going on now that we’re reunited with the characters. If one question on your mind after starting the second season is what ever happened to Javi, we’re here with a refresher for you.

Javi, if you forget, is Travis’ little brother. The two go along with their father, the coach of the Yellowjackets, on the trip to Seattle for the soccer tournament, but of course, they don’t make it there. The plane crashes while flying over Canada. In the aftermath of the crash, their dad is dead, and Travis helps Javi deal with the trauma.

Where is Javi in Yellowjackets season 2?

But in the premiere of Yellowjackets season 2, Javi is nowhere to be found. And that’s because he leaves the group! In case you forget, the group of survivors throws a homecoming party, a.k.a. a “doomcoming,” in the penultimate episode of the first season. During the celebration, almost everyone accidentally eats magic mushrooms, and the night is absolute chaos. Jackie and Travis end up having sex, and then the other girls try to have sex with Travis against his will and partake in a strange ritual.

So much happens that night, and in the midst of it all, Javi flees. After spotting him in the woods, Shauna tells him to run, and we’ve yet to see him again. Since the crash, Javi had been very fearful, understandably, and thought they all would die. It seems like after seeing all of the events happening that night, he decided to run away.

We’re not sure if Javi had intentions of coming back, but by the premiere of Yellowjackets season 1, he’s gone. Travis and Nat are still looking for him, going out on treks together to try and find anything that could lead them to him.

Because we don’t see an adult Javi in the present-day timeline, we can assume he probably doesn’t make it out of the wilderness alive. But hopefully, we’ll get a concrete answer at some point this season.
