Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge on HGTV: Everything we know so far

Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge is coming to HGTV in time for the release of the Barbie movie starring Margot Robbie hitting theaters this July. The home improvement series, which will feature celebrity guests, pop culture history, and Barbie surprises, will be hosted by supermodel Ashley Graham who is also a designer, author, and entrepreneur.

Those participating in the challenge will be taking a Southern California home and transforming it into a real life Barbie Dreamhouse that one lucky Barbie fan will get to win a chance to stay in. Eight teams will be recreating classic home decor looks from the iconic doll’s various eras including an early ’60s atomic age kitchen, a ’70s disco style den for Ken, and a main bedroom that embodies the glam of the ’80s. The winning design team will have a donation made to Save the Children in their name.

The series will premiere Sunday, July 16 at 8 p.m. ET on HGTV.

Competitors

15 home design and renovation experts and one Food Network chef will be getting their hands dirty (and pink) to create the Barbie Dreamhouse. They’ll be paired into eight teams to take on this challenge.

Barbie Dreamhouse Challenge episode release schedule

Week 1: Sunday, July 16 – 90 minute premiere

Egypt Sherrod, Mike Jackson, Jasmine Roth, and Antoni Lofaso tackle the first-floor which will see the Married to Real Estate stars drawing inspiration from Barbie’s ’90s neon style to design the entryway, living room, and dining room to transform them into a very pink paradise. Meanwhile, Jasmine and Antonia will be channeling the ’60s to convert the kitchen and family room into space-age inspired units. Guest appearance by Kitty Black Perkins, who is credited for designing the first Black Barbie.

Week 2: Sunday, July 23

Ty Pennington and Alison Victoria will put together a ’70s era den for Ken with a disco theme while Jonathan Knight and Kristina Crestin bring ’80s glam to the primary suite. Entertainment Tonight‘s Nischelle Turner will guest star as a celebrity judge.

Week 3: Sunday, July 30

The front yard and home exterior of the dreamhouse will get a ’90s spin from Keith Bynum and Evan Thomas that’s described as “toy-riffic” as the backyard is transformed into a wild Y2K inspired design by Brian and Mika Kleinschmidt. Actress Marsain Martin will guest star as a celebrity judge.

Week 4: Sunday, Aug. 6

Christina Hall and James Bender are tasked with bringing Barbie’s futuristic closet and dressing room to life. To finish the house off, Michael Smith Boyd and Anthony Elle Williams will design a chic office for Barbie whose career is vast and diverse. Fashion designer Christian Siriano will guest star as a celebrity judge.
