Last week’s Night Court certainly left us on a cliffhanger! And it makes sense going into the season finale tonight, May 9, 2023. With the end of this chapter of the story, we’re wondering whether a season 2 of the comedy is happening.

In episode 15, “The Honorable Dan Fielding,” the public defender who doesn’t like to get too emotional gets offered the job of being a judge in his hometown in Louisiana. It’s a role he’s always wanted to take on. He decides to take the job and of course has Abby’s support. She and her fiancé Rand throw Dan a party, but she has to leave to help out a former defendant she had earlier in the day. But, as she tries to help it gets her in jail! And she calls Dan to help get her out.

Tonight, the season 1 finale titled “The Honorable Dan Fielding Part 2,” airs at 8 p.m. ET on NBC. We’re going to see Abby go on trial as she and Dan fight for her professional life, per the synopsis. Also, she and Rand’s relationship will be at a crossroads. So after Dan helps Abby, does that mean the character and actor will no longer be on the show? We’ll have to see what happens in the finale.

There’s a lot to look forward to this evening, but we’re already thinking ahead! Is there going to be a second season of the sitcom? We’ve got the answer for you below!

Night Court season 2: Is the NBC comedy getting a second season?

Good news! Night Court season 2 is happening. The NBC comedy is coming back for another season! The network shared the news back in February 2023.

The show premiered in January 2023 as part of the broadcaster’s winter lineup. So, we’re expecting season 2 to be back at around the same time. But we don’t know that for sure yet. We’ll have to wait for official word from NBC. It’s possible its air date could be delayed depending on how long the WGA strike goes on for. Even though production had started on the sophomore season, it’s now paused for the strike.

The series stars Melissa Rauch as Judge Abby Stone, John Larroquette as public defender Dan Fielding, India de Beaufort as Olivia, Kapil Talwalkar as Neil, and Lacretta as Donna “Gurgs” Gurganous.

The Night Court season 1 finale airs tonight, May 9, 2023 on NBC. Stay tuned to Hidden Remote as we bring you updates about production the second season!
