It’s (almost) the moment we’ve all been waiting for! While of course the winner of American Idol is the main title, making the Top 3 is also a very big deal. And tonight, we know who the final three contestants are. Who made it into the season finale?

This evening’s episode saw the Top 5 perform Disney classics! From “Into the Unknown” from the movie Frozen, “Life Is a Highway” from the film Cars, to “The Climb” from Hannah Montana: The Movie.  Plus, Disney alum Sofia Carson helped mentor the contestants, while current Disney princess Halle Bailey put on a beautiful performance of “Part of Your World” from The Little Mermaid. And our votes at home decided who is continuing on to the next round.

So who is a part of the coveted Top 3 on the ABC series? Who did we have to say goodbye to? We’ve got the answer (and photos) for you below!

Top 3 American Idol 2023 contestants (Who made the American Idol Top 3?)

* Note – the following results were updated live during the airing of the episode

  • Colin Stough, 18 from Mississippi
  • Iam Tongi, 18 from Hawaii
  • Megan Danielle, 20 from Georgia

Colin Stough

Colin first waltzed in to American Idol with his guitar when he auditioned in New Orleans with the song “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The 18-year-old from Gattman, Mississippi moving on to the Top 3 earned his spot by singing “Real Gone” from Cars and “Nobody Knows” from Pete’s Dragon tonight. And it’s Mama Stough to thank, as she signed up the lovable HVAC technician for the show in the first place!

Iam Tongi

Ever since Iam walked into his audition in New Orleans singing “Monsters” by James Blunt, we knew he’d deliver a heartfelt performance every time he took the stage. The 18-year-old learned to sing from his dad Rodney, who passed away a few months before his audition. He brought all the judges to tears that first time, and he’s become a fan-favorite since. The high school student from Kahuku, Hawaii actually previously auditioned for American Idol, but didn’t make it past the initial screening. Well, look at how where he is today! Tonight, he serenaded us with “Lava” from the short film Lava and “Father and Son” from Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

Megan’s unique voice captured everyone’s attention from the very start when she came into the Las Vegas auditions with “You Say” by Lauren Daigle. And the 20-year-old’s inspiration, Lauren, actually surprised her there! From Douglasville, Georgia, the talented Christian singer and waitress previously auditioned on The Voice season 18 and was on Kelly Clarkson’s team. She was in the Top 9 of the NBC series before being eliminated. Well, her Idol journey was waiting for her just a few years later! Tonight, “You Can’t Stop the Girl” from Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and “Carried Me With You” from Onward got her into the Top 3!

Who went home on American Idol? (Who didn’t make it into the Top 3?)

  • Wé Ani, 23 from New York
  • Zachariah Smith, 19 from Mississippi

Is American Idol on tomorrow night? (May 15)

Now that we’ve reached the Top 3, we’re not going to see anyone go home on tomorrow’s new episode, “Journey to the Finale.” Instead, the episode will feature never-before-seen footage of the final three, and focus on the the remaining contestants to chronicle their journeys throughout the season. Be careful of the air time! American Idol is on at 9 p.m. ET instead of the 8 p.m. ET timeslot tomorrow, May 15. Then, get ready for the season finale next week, May 21, 2023 where the winner will be crowned! And there’s so many performers to look forward to in the three-hour episode.

And all the American Idol fun won’t stop there! The competition series has already been renewed by ABC, which means we’ll be introduced to a group of new talents next year in 2024. We can’t wait!

American Idol airs a new episode tonight, May 14, 2023, on ABC
