The Bold and the Beautiful recap (May 24): Steffy shocks Liam

Steffy and Liam were having a wonderful time as a family with their daughter, Kelly, at the Cliff House today on The Bold and the Beautiful. They howled like wolves, negotiated the amount of cookies Liam could have, and Kelly even got both of her parents to tuck her in for the night. As the young Spencer noted, she loves when they’re all about to spend time together, and she tried to stretch their bonding moments for as long as she could until it was finally time for her to go to bed.

This left her parents to reminisce with one another, settling in for a fond conversation while Liam sat on the coffee table and Steffy was comfortable on the couch with her blanket thrown over her legs. Their peace, however, was shattered when Liam received a phone call from Hope letting him know that she wouldn’t be home for dinner because she has to work late.

Liam’s reaction to that news was not subtle. Clearly bothered, but curiously not saying that he was currently at Steffy’s house, he told Hope fine and hung up after a terse goodbye. Concerned by his demeanor, Steffy asked what was going on and Liam informed her that yet again Hope was cancelling their plans because of work. Apparently, she’s been working a lot of late nights and Liam believes this could be Thomas interfering.

Tired of blame constantly being thrown at her brother, and knowing what she’d witnessed concerning Hope, Steffy told Liam that maybe Thomas isn’t the problem this time, that maybe it’s his wife. This rocked Liam, who had just been saying he was picking up a vibe between Thope which is something he’s noticed when he’s seen them interacting. He never considered that what he’s perceiving is Hope’s feelings for his rival.

The episode ended before we could see Liam verbally react to Steffy’s statement, but it’s certain to be must-watch TV that we can’t wait to see. As for the rest of the episode, here’s what happened.

What happened today on The Bold and the Beautiful?

Hope failed at trying to calm her mother’s nerves when it comes to her working relationship with Thomas. Every time she seemed to be making headway, she wound up saying something incredibly positive about him and a bit too much for Brooke to handle. For instance, she called him a remarkable man which left Brooke questioning Hope’s denial that anything is going on.

Hope did at least admit that her feelings for Thomas have changed and they’ve done so because he’s changed. Brooke just can’t sit comfortably in the idea that Hope is in anyway attracted to or interested in Thomas. This, of course, is something her daughter is aware of and is the entire reason she said what she did about him being manipulative and unstable.

Thomas explained this to Taylor whose anger did not cool upon further explanation of what was overheard. She wanted to know why Hope felt compelled to appease Brooke since that’s the reason she gave to Thomas for why she said such awful things when she knows how far Thomas has come. So, she confronted Brooke in the main office after Hope left.

Taylor wanted Brooke to put it all out on the table. She doesn’t want to be lied to or placated and clearly there’s something her friend isn’t telling her because Brooke had every opportunity to disclose her discomfort with Thope’s partnership and she chose not to. Realizing that she had to be forthcoming in some capacity, Brooke admitted that she thought she was comfortable with Thomas’ working relationship with Hope, but she doesn’t think she is anymore.

What Taylor doesn’t know is that this is because of Hope not because of her son. Thomas hasn’t done anything, but Brooke’s daughter has been flipping back and forth between how she really feels and what she thinks her mom wants to hear. That’s why Hope said that she doesn’t want anything to impede Thomas’ progress but at the same time seemed to imply that there is something between them that she has completely under control. She’s giving her mom emotional whiplash.

Across the hall, Thomas’ mind was on his work as he struggled to figure out what wasn’t working with a recent design. Hope couldn’t quite concentrate because her mind was on what she’d said that he overheard. Thomas reassuring her once more that they’re fine seemed to do the trick though because they were back to cracking jokes. When Hope checked the time, she hopped to attention, and called Liam to check-in.

Since they had hit a wall creatively, Hope decided to work late because they’re on a deadline. She reminded Liam of this, but it only served to ruffle his feathers. And that’s how he ended up in a conversation with Steffy that had the CEO finally spilling the beans that it’s Hope rocking the boat in his marriage not Thomas.
