If you go up to anyone and say the name Indiana Jones, 99% of the time people will know who you’re talking about. The film franchise has become a staple in popular culture!

Though the first movie came out in 1981, Indiana Jones and his adventures are still talked about to this day. The story follows the globe-trotting archaeologist played by Harrison Ford.

Ford’s stellar acting and director Steven Spielberg’s brilliant creative mind help take us on an epic journey. The first film in the franchise, Raiders of the Lost Ark, became the highest-grossing movie of 1981, bringing in around $330.5 million into the box office worldwide. It was so popular that it played in some theaters for over a year!

The Indiana Jones movies still have an impact today. Whether you remember them from the ’80s or you’re more of a modern fan, you might need a refresher on when the films were released.

All the Indiana Jones movies in order

The film series currently has a total of four movies. Indiana Jones first took us on an adventure with Raiders of the Last Ark. Here’s a list of the all the films in order based on release date:

If you’re looking to watch the movies in order based on when the story takes place, then all of them were already released that way except for one. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom serves as a prequel to Raiders of the Last Ark. The prequel is set in 1935, a year before the events of the first film.

And if you can’t get enough of Dr. Henry Walton, then you’re in luck! A fifth film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, is coming to theaters Friday, June 30, 2023. Ford reprises his role as everyone’s favorite adventure-seeking archaeologist. It will serve as a sequel to the fourth movie.

In the meantime, you might want to check out the 1992 television series on Disney+, The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. The show portrays the character’s childhood and youth including adventures with his father. There’s also a number of comic books, novels, and video games that have been released due to the character and films’ popularity.

Where to watch the Indiana Jones movies (2023)

There’s a few streaming options for the Indiana Jones movies. Your best bet is to to watch all four films with a subscription to Paramount+ or Disney+ as all four productions are currently streaming on both platforms. All the films can also be rented through Apple TV, YouTube, or Google Play Movies & TV. While Dial of Destiny will first be released on the big screens, the movie will most likely stream on Disney+ at some point.
