One of Spider-Man‘s oldest enemies is about to get the big screen treatment. Kraven the Hunter is set to hit theaters later this year, and here’s the first look at the trailer and what to know about it!

Debuting in 1964 in Amazing Spider-Man vol 1 #15, Sergei Karvinoff is a big-game hunter who comes to New York to hunt Spider-Man, considering him a great prize. While having no powers beyond enhanced strength, skills, and senses, Kraven is a cunning opponent who pushes Spidey to the limit.

Kraven’s most famous tale was “Kraven’s Last Hunt,” where he kidnapped Spider-Man, buried him alive, and went around in the costume for a bit before taking his own life. For a time, his son would take the mantle, but the original Kraven was later resurrected to continue his hunts.

Now, Kraven is hitting the big screen in an attempt by Sony to create their own filmed “Spider-verse.” With J.C. Chandor directing, the movie looks to be a wild adventure fitting the character.

What is the movie Kraven the Hunter about?

Sony has yet to release an official synopsis for the film. The trailer indicates it will show Kraven’s life, from his training under a brutal father to becoming a hunter himself. He’ll also tangle with mercenary the Foreigner and the Rhino, who here is indicated to be mutated into a true animal creature.

Cast

Aaron Taylor-Johnson takes on the role of Sergei, beefing himself up to play the part. Russell Crowe appears in flashbacks as his father. Fred Hechinger is another classic Spider-Man foe, the Chameleon, a master of disguise and Kraven’s half-brother. Alessandro Nivola is the Rhino, while Oscar-winner Ariana DeBose plays Calypso, a voodoo priestess and Kraven’s love interest.
