Was Secret Invasion really filmed in Moscow? (Where was it filmed?)
Secret Invasion promises an international feel as Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) takes on a Skrull infiltration of Earth. But was this really filmed on a global scale, including in Russia? Fittingly, not all is as it seems on the show.
The show brings Fury back to Earth as a renegade faction of the shapeshifting alien Skrulls is out to conquer the planet. The show opens in Moscow as Fury reunites with old allies Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) and Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) to face this faction.
Part of the action takes place at an abandoned nuclear power plant, as Skrulls are immune to radiation. Their plan is to trick the U.S. and Russia into World War III to wipe out humanity so they can take over.
The pilot concludes with a festival in Moscow that’s the site of a deadly bombing. It looked pretty real on screen, but was this really filmed in the city?
Where was Secret Invasion filmed?
It should be no surprise that the show wasn’t actually filmed in Moscow. Given the current tense political relations between Russia and other nations, filming in the country would be impossible. Thus, the U.K. had to stand in for Russia.
Filming primarily took place in West Yorkshire and London. The big festival scene in Moscow was actually filmed in Halifax’s Piece Hall. The “nuclear reactor Skrull base” was really the famous Pinewood Studios outside of London.
It’s likely that the UK will continue to fill in for other spots around the globe. Thus, fittingly, Secret Invasion maintains an illusion to fool its audience into seeing what’s not there.
