Hope Logan Spencer’s decision making abilities are not at peak capacity right now on The Bold and the Beautiful. Today she told her husband, Liam, that she wasn’t going to give up on their marriage and yet she ended the episode in an embrace with the very man she knows he despises, Thomas Forrester. How did this happen?

Well, if you need a reminder after the 4th July holiday, Hope got out of her sad sweats, did her face, and put on a nice dress to convince Liam that they could withstand the damage done by the betrayal he witnessed. She took responsibility for kissing Thomas in front of the Colosseum in Rome and wishes she didn’t make a choice that hurt him especially since he saw the two with his own eyes.

However, during their talk, she never provided what exactly she was going to do in order to prove to him that she loves him, wants their marriage, and is committed to the life they’ve been making together. Liam had to remind her that he had to make her tell him that she kissed his rival and that she gaslit him for months. She swore that nothing was going on between her and Thomas, so much so that he began to feel a little crazy for even seeing that there was something brewing between the pair.

What happened today on The Bold and the Beautiful?

It’s Liam’s belief that Hope’s always going to find a way to have Thomas be in their lives. It’s what she’s continued to do no matter how much he’s asked her to not have him be so enmeshed in their day-to-day activities. This is also why he hasn’t said anything about Thomas not working on the line anymore because even if he got Hope to agree to that, she’d still find a way to see him more than she should.

Hope’s response was to say that Thomas is Douglas’ father, but Liam told her that she needs to stop saying that because that’s not the sole reason Thomas is a part of her life. She’s attracted to him and she wants him, that’s very much clear to Liam and she knows that’s the one thing he wouldn’t be able to handle. It could have been anyone else but it just had to be his rival.

Though Hope brought up that she’s forgiven Liam for many hurtful and potentially ruinous actions in the past, Liam still wouldn’t budge on what he wouldn’t tolerate. Realizing that Liam was serious about wanting to end their marriage and that he wants a divorce, Hope asked him if he’s gone to see Steffy.

It’s a predictable pattern for him. Their relationship is in trouble or ending and he finds his way over to his ex-wife’s home. Hope didn’t wait for him to answer her because she knew that’s what he did. Liam, however, didn’t share that he’d been to see Steffy or that he kissed her. What he did deign to acknowledge is that he hadn’t been thinking about his ex prior to Hope’s dalliance but he certainly is now.

With that, Liam left the cabin, telling Hope that he’ll be staying at his father’s house until he’s back from his vacation. But instead of stewing in self-pity or crying once more about his departure, Hope carried herself over to Thomas’ home.

Hope tells Thomas that Liam knows about the kiss

Earlier in the episode, he’d been at Steffy’s house being filled in on the fact she knows exactly what happened in Rome. Thomas didn’t want his sister to say anything about his kiss with Hope because the last thing he wants is for Hope to lose her marriage. He was willing to continue letting everyone believe that if anything inappropriate were to happen that he’d be the one to initiate it so as not to upset Hope’s reputation and standing in her marriage.

Thomas was bothered that Rome, which was an incredible achievement for them both, now carries this stain of what was seen in front of the Colosseum. Steffy had to tell him that she didn’t know about the kiss because she saw it herself, she knew because Liam did. She explained that he’d changed his mind about staying behind in the States and wanted to be there to celebrate Hope for the Future’s success with his wife, only to find her kissing Thomas. Steffy didn’t share that in his grief, Liam kissed her. She’s still holding tight to that secret.

When the episode caught up with Thomas after his talk with Steffy at the Cliff House, he was at his own house. There was a knock at the door and when he opened it, Hope burst through telling him that Liam knows about the kiss and that he’s decided to end their marriage over it. Overcome with emotion, Hope threw herself into Thomas’ arms and he held her as she clung to him.

Brooke, Ridge, and RJ talk about Hope and Liam’s marriage

It’s certain that the Forresters, Logans, and Spencers are going to be pulled into this mess of Hope and Thomas’ making. Ridge once again assured Brooke that Liam and Hope would find their way back to each other despite Hope’s betrayal, but she’s still concerned that they won’t even if she does believe that love always finds away and she and Ridge are the proof of that truth.

RJ joined the conversation, bringing pastries with him, as they all discussed Hope’s predicament. He, too, believes that his sister and Liam will make it through this rough patch. He thinks with time that Liam will forgive her and the two can focus on their family. Brooke knows it may not be so simple. She doesn’t understand how Hope could have kissed Thomas when she’s in love with Liam, and she admitted that she’s been worried about her daughter’s feelings for her lead designer for some time.

Brooke opened up about her feelings regarding Hope’s vehement statement that she doesn’t want to be like her. And, while she does know that she was saying that because she was freaking out that she has feelings for someone who isn’t Liam, it’s stuck with Brooke because Hope isn’t living by the principals she’s set for herself.

In this storyline there’s been a repeated refrain that Hope’s attraction to Thomas isn’t just wrong because she’s married. It’s also wrong because of all that Thomas had done to her and Liam over the years in his pursuit of her. As a parting shot before he left to go brood at Spencer Publications, Liam told her there must be something broken in her if she wants Thomas. Angry, Hope said maybe he’s right. It’ll be interesting to see how the soap handles Thope moving forward.

Until next time, Bold fans. Stay beautiful!
