Fans of Chicago Med can’t wait for Chicago Med season 9 to hit their TVs. Unfortunately, there have been some developments in the TV industry that make the Chicago Med season 9 premiere a little bit more complicated than usual.

Normally, we’re starting to hear lots of rumors about Chicago Med and the rest of the Chicago shows during the summer. Pre-production is usually underway by now, or starting to get underway, and the cast and crew are preparing to start filming in the next couple of months. That’s not happening right now because of the WGA strike and the AMPTP not offering a deal the writers are willing to agree to.

Is Chicago Med season 9 happening?

Yes, Chicago Med season 9 is happening. NBC renewed Chicago Med for season 9 in April 2023. It wasn’t one of the NBC shows that were waiting for the renewal. Chicago Med season 9 was picked up quickly at NBC.

Chicago Med was renewed for seasons 6, 7, and 8 back in 2020, but it’s interesting that this time around, the show was only picked up for one season. It’s not necessarily alarming, but is it a sign of things to come?

Has the Chicago Med season 9 premiere date been announced?

The Chicago Med season 9 premiere has not been announced, and that’s because of the WGA strike and the uncertainty surrounding the TV industry. We know that the new season won’t premiere while the strike continues. Once it’s over, we have to assume that NBC will move quickly to get the show into production as soon as possible. There’s still time for that to happen with minimal delays, but it’s all just a waiting game for fans right now.

Chicago Med season 9 is part of NBC’s fall schedule. That was announced in May 2023. If the WGA strike ends soon, Chicago Med season 9 will likely premiere in September, October, or November 2023.

It’s too difficult to predict where things will fall right now, but we’re still holding out hope for a fall 2023 premiere for Chicago Med season 9.

The Chicago Med season 9 cast has not been confirmed, but we have a good idea of which cast members will return for Chicago Med season 9.

Unfortunately, Nick Gehlfuss, who starred as Dr. Will Halstead, left the series in season 8 and will not be returning for season 9. Guy Lockard, who played Dr. Dylan Scott, also left the series in season 8 and likely will not be back for season 9. Brian Tee and Yaya DaCosta also left in season 8, and it’s assumed they will not return.

How many episodes are in Chicago Med season 9?

NBC ordered 22 episodes for Chicago Med season 9, so right now, it looks like there are going to be 22 episodes in the new season.

Obviously, there’s always room for that to change. A few years ago, we saw shortened seasons of most broadcast shows because of the COVID-19 pandemic and work stoppage. We’re in the middle of the WGA strike, and there’s a chance that there will be a SAG strike, as well. Assuming the WGA strike continues and/or SAG strikes, there’s the potential for a shortened Chicago Med season 9.

During the last WGA strike, there were a lot of shows that saw shortened seasons during that time.

Where to watch Chicago Med season 9

Chicago Med season 9 will air Wednesdays during TV season on NBC, along with Chicago Fire and Chicago PD. It’s unclear, as we mentioned, when the premiere will be, but we’re hoping we’ll be watching new episodes of Chicago Med season 9 in the fall of 2023.

Is Chicago Med available to stream?

You can also stream Chicago Med season 9 on Peacock during the season. Chicago Med season 8 is currently streaming on Peacock right now, along with the first seven seasons of the series.

Chicago Med used to be available to stream on Netflix, but it’s not available to stream there anymore.

Is Chicago Med season 9 the final season?

As of right now, NBC has not announced if Chicago Med is the final season of the series. I don’t think it will be, but there’s obviously the possibility that could happen. As mentioned, the series got a three-season renewal in 2020, which lasted until 2023.

The show is still pulling great ratings, so there’s little reason to think that Chicago Med season 9 will be the final season. Although ratings have dropped recently, it’s still one of the most popular broadcast shows on TV right now.

Until NBC renews the series, Chicago Med is not safe. Fans have to show up, watch, and hope that enough fellow fans tune in for the hit series to secure that renewal for season 10.
