Deadpool 3 release updates, strike delays, and everything we know so far

Update: July 14, 2023 – Marvel has suffered from a few delays as of late due to the ongoing WGA strike, but there is a modicum of good news.

We will finally be able to see the merc with the mouth integrated into the MCU, even though, technically, it seems that because some of the original cast is returning, it seems heavily implied that the first two films have already been part of the MCU without anyone realizing it.

Deadpool has always been a controversial character in the Marvel Universe and probably the only character to make some of the funniest and raunchiest quips while breaking the fourth wall at the same time. Here is what we know about the latest MCU foray so far.

Deadpool 3 release date

Deadpool 3 has been pushed up from November 8, 2024, to May 3, 2024. That has been something good to come out of this WGA strike. The first film of 2024 seems to be the saving grace of the MCU and will most likely conjure up some laughs from the audience. It’s great to see something positive come out of the WGA strike in the name of Deadpool.

However, that’s if the movie is able to hold that release date. SAG-AFTRA and the AMPTP weren’t able to reach an agreement which triggered a strike. The film’s production has been paused because of this and likely won’t resume until after the strike is over.

Deadpool 3 cast

Much of the cast from the first two movies will return to the third chapter. We already know that Ryan Reynolds is coming back as Wade Wilson, the iconic red anti-hero and he’s coming back with the majority of the original cast. Morena Baccarin is coming back as Vanessa, who is Wilson’s fiance.

Leslie Uggams is returning as Blind Al, who is Wilson’s blind and elderly roommate with Karan Soni as Dopinder, who works as WIlson’s personal taxi driver and part-time therapist of sorts. Brianna Hildebrand and Shioli Kutsuna return as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and her girlfriend Yukio and who could forget Stefan Capicic as the stern, no-nonsense Colossus?

We also know the third film will welcome back Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, marking his first official appearance in the MCU.

Deadpool 3 rating

The first Marvel movie of 2024 will definitely be rated R according to the writers, as he revealed to The Playlist. Rhett Reese told the outlet that Deadpool 3 would be rated R as well.

"“They’re not gonna mess with the tone. I mean, I’d never say never, I guess there’s an outside chance, but we’ve always been told it can be R-[rated], and we’re proceeding as if it’s R. We would like it to be R, we always have, so I don’t think that’ll change,” Rheese said."
