Magnum P.I. season 5 part 2 is coming in 2023

Updated: July 19, 2023 – In an about face, Magnum P.I. season 5 part 2 will be making its premiere in 2023 after all. NBC’s revised fall schedule has the show slated to premiere on Monday, Oct. 4 at 10 p.m. ET on the network. It had previously been held for the midseason but, with the writers and actors strike ongoing, the series’ final run has been moved up significantly.

Updated: June 23, 2023 – Magnum P.I. finished the first half of season 5 on Sunday, April 23. Yes, that’s right. Fans can expect another 10 episodes to be headed their way. Unfortunately, it won’t be over the summer. In fact, it won’t even be this year.

NBC has announced its 2023-2024 television schedule. It was everyone’s hope that if viewers wouldn’t be returned to Magnum’s adventures during the hottest months of the year than they’d at least get to reunite with him during the fall, but Deadline reports the part 2 of season 5 is being held until the midseason.

Here’s what more we know.

Does Magnum P.I. season 5 part 2 have a release date?

Unfortunately, no. We only have a release window which is the midseason, as mentioned above. This mean the second half of season 5 could  premiere anywhere between January and March 2024. It depends on NBC’s schedule and, unlike La Brea, Magnum P.I. doesn’t have a projected release time frame like “the start of 2024.”

Season 5 did premiere in February 2023 so perhaps the series will return with new episodes around that time next year. We’ll keep you posted.

Is Magnum P.I. season 5 part 2 filming?

Hawaii News Now reports filming wrapped on the fifth season back in April. So the back half of the season would be in post-production right now. However, the WGA strike is going on which has grounded much of Hollywood to a halt and, depending on how long the strike lasts, we could be seeing delays for both NBC’s fall schedule and midseason schedule.

Has Magnum P.I. been renewed for a season 6?

No. Unfortunately, the series was canceled on Friday, June 23. Season 5 Part 2, which has 10 episodes, will serve as the conclusion of Magnum P.I. Click through to the next page for why the show won’t be returning for a sixth season at NBC and likely won’t be saved.
