Founded in 1864, the club is the third oldest professional football club in the world. Actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney purchased the club in the hopes of turning it around and getting the team back on top, as well as bringing up the hopes of the working-class town of Wrexham in North Wales who still supports their home team.

The first season received six 2023 Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Unstructured Reality Series, and has been a hit since it first debuted. We definitely can’t wait for more. Here’s everything we know about the second season ahead of its release!

What happened at the end of Welcome to Wrexham season 1?

In the season 1 finale, “Do or Die,” we saw Wrexham go against Grimsby Town in the National League play-off semi-finals. This was an important game as whoever wins gets to move on to the playoff finals. We see the match kickoff, interviews with fans and players, a very close game, but Grimsby ultimately moving on to the fourth-tier EFL League Two while Wrexham remains in the National League. And while the loss is hard on everyone, McElhenney reassured the players that they’ve given hope to their community, and that they have hope on how far they’ll go in the next football season.

What is Welcome To Wrexham season 2 about? (Welcome To Wrexham season 2 synopsis)

We shared the official description of season 2, per a FX press release:

"After a painful elimination in the playoffs, season two continues to track the club as they fight for promotion out of the National League and return to the English Football League. Dedicated staff and supporters hold on to the dream of returning the team and town to glory while bracing for the new-found challenges that fame has brought to their small community. From Hollywood to Wales, from the pitch to the locker room, the front office to the pub, Welcome to Wrexham follows Rob and Ryan’s stewardship and the inextricably connected fates of a team and a town in the midst of history in the making"

How much did Ryan Reynolds pay for Wrexham? (How much did Rob McElhenney pay for Wrexham?)

According to Sporting News, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney paid around $2.5 million to purchase the Welsh club. That’s about £2 million. Before the duo took over, Wrexham A.F.C. held the No. 20 spot in the National League rankings. In the 2020-2021 season, the club went up to eighth place. And finally in the 2021-2022 season, when the pair officially took ownership, the team reached the No. 2 spot. Will they make it to the first in season 2 of the docuseries? We’re sure counting on it! The first season also saw the actors learning everything there is to know about managing a football team as they’ve never had the experience before. I think they’re pros now, right!?
