The One Chicago franchise is huge and continues to be a popular option on NBC! We have Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD. All three shows have been renewed for another season, but neither of them are coming back in 2023. Why is that the case?

Chicago PD was renewed for a season 11 in April 2023, which is a few weeks before the season 10 finale even aired! So we knew we were getting more of the police procedural early on before the show took a break.

The schedule for the series has always been to finish a season in May, and start a new one in September of the same year. So why isn’t that happening this time? When is the show coming back? We’ve got the answer for you below.

Why isn’t Chicago PD season 11 coming to NBC in 2023?

Chicago PD season 11 is not coming to NBC in 2023 because of the strikes that are happening in Hollywood. On May 2, 2023, the writers strike went into effect, followed by the actors strike on July 14. Of course with no writers and no actors being able to film, that means productions have had to be on pause and no filming can happen. The writers rooms usually go back in July to pen scripts, but this of course didn’t happen this year.

When is Chicago PD season 11 coming out? (Release date predictions)

Unfortunately at this time, we don’t know when Chicago PD season 11 is coming out. It was supposed to be a part of NBC’s fall 2023 television schedule. That means we would have seen the new season in September, per usual. But now with no writers, scripts, or actors, this is going to delay production on season 11.

Most of the big networks have shared that they’re aiming for midseason 2024. So that means anytime between January-March next year. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) who represents the writers and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) who represents the big studios are meeting Friday, Aug. 4, 2023 to discuss contracts and to see if the two groups can come to an agreement. If this happens, that could give us a better idea of when we could expect to see the return of the fan-favorite One Chicago series.
