The romantic plots continue to twist on The Bold and the Beautiful. August is kicking off with a shocker on the soap, though that declaration also depends on if you really thought after Liam left Hope that Steffy would be staying put in her marriage with Finn. To be fair, the Co-CEO chose to walk out on her husband due to his connection to his birth mother, Sheila Carter, her enemy and the very woman who left her and Finn for dead in Il Giardino’s back alley. But, we all saw that closing shot on today’s episode, Steam as a family unit looks primed to rise once again.

It all started when Finn admitted that he considers Sheila to be a hero due to her rescuing of his stepdaughter, Kelly, when she’d been drowning. He admitted to his negligence and what may have happened had Sheila not been there. Finn also confessed to embracing Sheila at the courthouse after murder charges against her were dropped and she became a free woman again. All of this was beyond the pail for Steffy.

As she told her husband, she no longer feels safe in her home because Finn’s bond with his birth mother is a threat. In her mind, he is incapable of ensuring that she and their children aren’t put in harm’s way. He proved this to her when he turned his back on Kelly at the beach which left it up to Sheila to save her all because she’d been stalking her son and step-grandchild.

Refusing to remain in a place she now considers to be dangerous, Steffy packed herself, Kelly, and Hayes up and went over to her grandfather’s. Finn tried to say that her reaction is a product of Liam’s manipulations as he works to undermine their marriage because he wants her back. But Steffy wouldn’t hear it. She reiterated to him that he was the one who hugged his mother and that Liam had nothing to do with her decision. Her ex showed her what happened but that doesn’t change Finn’s actions.

What happened today on The Bold and the Beautiful?

At Forrester Mansion, Steffy got her kids settled. Today’s episode marked the first time viewers have seen Hayes as a preschool aged child. He and Kelly went off to color and, a moment later, Liam arrived after receiving an urgent text from Steffy.

He’d been at his office reminiscing about his life with her before being summoned to the mansion, so he didn’t have much on his plate. However, a piping hot meal was dropped on it when Steffy dished up the terrifying incident that was Kelly’s near drowning. He had to temper some of his reaction because Kelly chose that moment to come see her father but as soon as she delivered the news that it was Sheila who saved her and not Finn, Steffy promptly ushered her away to go play with Hayes.

Liam, understandably, wanted answers. He was grateful that Kelly was alright and had told his daughter that she’d been brave despite the scary situation but once he didn’t have to act as if he wasn’t about to blow his top, his temper flared. Liam couldn’t believe that they’d nearly lost their daughter because Finn had turned his back on her at the beach, something that no one should do when minding a child.

Then to add to that, Sheila was the one who had to save her. Liam made his position known, he does not want Finn alone with Kelly again due to this turn of events. Steffy didn’t argue. In fact, that was the moment she chose to explain to Liam why she’s now at Eric’s house. She told him she left Finn, the implication being that her marriage is at an end. Steffy believes that she’ll be safer over at her grandfather’s and, though she didn’t voice it, with Finn out of her life (likely just for now).

When Kelly came to see her parents again, she asked her mom why she was crying. Steffy told a half truth. She’s just so grateful that her daughter is okay. It was at this point that Liam did something he likely shouldn’t have. He told Kelly that he loves her and Hayes and her mom, and that he’s always going to make sure they’re safe. The implication, of course, being that he’s going to take over the protective duties that he believes Finn has forsaken thanks to his susceptibility to Sheila. I doubt Finn is going to take kindly to that mentality or the picture perfect image of Steffy, Liam, and Kelly sharing a group hug as Steam look into each other’s eyes.

Li takes Steffy’s side when Finn tells her Steffy left

Back at the Cliff House, Finn was at peak ennui as he gazed out the sliding glass door. When his adoptive mom, Li, arrived he immediately went running to her. He was so upset his face cracked, but as he began explaining what happened, she became less and less sympathetic. While she was incredibly relieved that Kelly was okay, she was taken aback and shocked that Sheila was the one who saved their granddaughter.

To make matters worse, Finn had to explain that when he was telling Steffy what happened, he said that she should cut her some slack. That set Li off. She couldn’t believe he was saying that considering Sheila had tried to kill all three of them. By the time he reached the part about how he had embraced his birth mother at the courthouse, Li was through. She told him, “No wonder Steffy left you.” Ouch!

Sheila and Deacon bask in the afterglow

Meanwhile, Sheila was minding her business and getting down with her man, Deacon. While he still hasn’t let anyone in on the fact that he has feelings for her, he has continued to show her how passionate he can be in the bedroom. The two reacquainted themselves with each other’s bodies as they flirted, joked, and threw in some serious conversation in-between.

Sheila has no intention on leaving town, and she’s determined to be in her son’s life including his family life. Deacon has been skeptical, but he did admit that he’s counted her out before and yet somehow she always seems to get what she wants by the end. Her freedom being the prime example.
