Barbie gets exciting Max release update from Warner Bros. Discovery boss

We all knew Barbie would be a massive hit at the box office, but no one could have predicted just how big the film would end up becoming!

Since its release on July 21, Greta Gerwig’s Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling-led film has been breaking box office records becoming one of the most successful films of all time. In just three weeks’ time, the film has already become the second-biggest movie of 2023 and there is a strong chance it will soon take the top spot.

As Barbie continues to light up the box office, Warner Bros. Discovery has offered up an exciting update on when the film will be coming to Max!

Barbie Max release updates: When could Barbie come to Max?

Although an exact release date has not yet been set for when Barbie will be coming to Max, Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has confirmed the movie will be coming sometime this fall. So when exactly could the movie become available to stream on Max?

Typically, studios like to give their films as much time in theaters and on-demand as possible before adding them to streaming services. On the short side of things we’ve seen movies arrive as early as 45 days after their theatrical release; however, we’re expecting Warner Bros. Discovery won’t be rushing the movie to Max. In fact, Zaslav basically said as much when announcing the movie would be coming in the fall:

"“We really believe in the motion picture window — let it play out … go into PVOD, take it through the windows that have worked forever [in the business],” Zaslav said via Deadline. “When it goes on Max, it will have a good impact in the fall.”"

What is most likely to happen is that Warner Bros. Discovery will wait until at least the 90-day window post-theatrical release to release Barbie on Max. Given the movie opened on July 21, the earliest the movie could arrive on Max would be late October.

We should know for certain when Barbie will come to Max as we get further removed from its theatrical release. In the meantime, we’ll be blasting “I’m Just Ken” and heading out to theaters to see the movie as many times as possible!
