Law and Order has become such a staple not only on NBC, but in the television world! The series first started its run in September 1990 and went on until May 2010. Then after 11 years, the network decided to bring it back in February 2022. Now we wait for Law and Order season 23, but unfortunatley we’re not going to see it this year.

NBC renewed the show on April 10, 2023. Usually, we always see the series back on our screens for a new season in the fall each year. So why is this time different? When will we see it? We’ve got the answer for you below.

Why isn’t Law and Order season 23 coming to NBC in 2023?

Law and Order season 23 is not coming to NBC in 2023 because of the writers strike and the actor strike. The main reason for the delay is probably because hardly any, if any, scripts have been written yet. Since the series just got a renewal in April, the writers’ union went on strike on May 2. There hasn’t been much time for them to get to work and start writing scripts. And now with the actors union also on strike, no filming can happen of course.

When is Law and Order season 23 coming out?

At this time, there is no release date for Law and Order season 23. We don’t know just how much the new season of the police procedural will be delayed. Many big studios are hoping for the shows they’ve had to push in the fall to return in the midseason schedule. That would be sometime in January-March 2024. But we’ll have to wait and see.

On Aug. 18, 2023, Deadline shared that the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), who represents the big studios, will be meeting this week to continue their discussions on negotiating a new contract. So right now all we can do is wait and see what happens next.
