The 2023 fall TV schedules are relying heavily on reality shows this year due to the writers strike and the actors strike. But, we do have a few new scripted series, like NBC’s Found, heading our way. Another one of those is The Irrational.

Writer Arika Mittman, Mark Goffman, Sam Baum, and David Frankel serve as executive producers on the drama. The show is based on the 2008 book Predictably Irrational: The Hidden Forces That Shape Our Decisions by author Dan Ariely, who also serves as a consultant on the production.

So when can we see the new series? Who stars in it? Here’s everything we know about the drama ahead of its release!

The Irrational release date

The Irrational premieres Monday, Sept. 25, 2023 at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.

How many episodes is in The Irrational? (Where to watch The Irrational)

The show has a total of 10 episodes. Episodes will air Monday nights on NBC. They will then be available to watch online the next day on Peacock. A subscription to the streaming service costs $5.99/month with ads or $11.99/month without ads.

Is The Irrational affected by the strikes?

So how come this new drama is making its way to NBC, but we have to wait for new seasons of returning favorites? That’s because this is one of the projects the network has already finished writing and filming before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA went on strike. The series was picked up by the broadcaster back in December 2022, and work had begun. So, that’s why all the episodes are complete and ready to air in fall 2023.

What is The Irrational about? (The Irrational synopsis)

The television production is centered around Alec Mercer, a “world-renowned professor” of behavioral science, per the synopsis. Governments, law enforcement, and corporations rely on his “unique expertise” and ask for his help in important and high-stakes cases. His unconventional approach in understanding human behavior lead him, and the team he’s on, to journeys that involve “illogical puzzles and perplexing mysteries.”

The Irrational cast

Jesse L. Martin takes on the role of Alec Mercer. The 54-year-old actor is most known for his roles as Tom Collins in Rent on Broadway, Ed Green on Law & Order, and Captain Joe West on The Flash. He’s joined by Maahra Hill, Travina Springer, and more. We shared the full cast list below:
