What’s next for Gabriela Perez on Fire Country season 2?

Fire Country season 2 has been delayed until 2024 due to the Hollywood strikes but that doesn’t mean we don’t have our minds on what could be happening next for the characters. The series left off on a rather somber note as Bode took the blame for a crime he didn’t commit and it impacted everyone who loves him.

When we’re dropped back into this story, things could look very different. After all, a decision like that is going to change not only him but those around him. One such person, besides his parents Vince and Sharon, is Gabriela Perez. In the first season, she’d been wrestling with retiring as a diver. Finally, she’d made the decision that she wanted to move on from the sport and focus on throwing herself into a new career.

Against her father’s wishes, Gabi signed up to become a Cal Fire firefighter. She found that she had what it takes to do the job, but her time as a probie hasn’t been the easiest. As she’s learned more about herself, she’s also gone through significant romantic changes as well. She started the series in love with and dating Bode’s former best friend, Jake, but now has a romantic tie to Bode and an old friend, Kyle, who is interested in her. What does that mean for Gabi’s future storylines in the upcoming season? Here’s what we know!

Will Gabriela become a Cal Fire firefighter in Fire Country season 2?

The season ended with Gabi still working through what she needed to accomplish in order to become a full fledged firefighter instead of continuing on as a probie. That period in a rookie’s career can last anywhere between 6-24 months depending on the policy and their ability to perform their duties. In season 1, Gabi had to be able to throw a ladder, which she was able to do in a critical moment during a rescue.

However, there’s been an indication that Gabi may have performance anxiety in cases where there’s potential loss of life. She disobeyed orders when Sharon asked her to assist with providing aid to those sequestered in a tent awaiting care for their life-threatening wounds. The event triggered a panic attack that stemmed from Gabi’s trauma surrounding witnessing a fellow diver suffer a grave head injury as well as her inability to save Meg in season1, episode 9.

Gabi is a perfectionist who relies on her work ethic, memorization skills, and rote memory to help her do her job. But a mess up, particularly one that could cost someone their life, is a fear of hers that’ll need to be worked through if she intends on remaining a firefighter. This could be a plot point that’s brought up again in season 2.

Are Bode and Gabriela together in Fire Country season 2?

Given the season 1 finale, don’t expect Bode and Gabi to be together immediately in season 2. The two parted due to his return to jail and, though she tried to be there for him, Bode pushed her away emotionally. Actress Stephanie Arcila gave her perspective to TVLine on where she believes her character will be romance wise at the start of the season:

"I think what Gabriela will do right now is take some space. I don’t think she would jump into something right away. Even in a moment in her life where she has no control over everything that’s happening, she will do her best."

Will Gabriela and Kyle get together in Fire Country season 2?

Kanoa Goo will be returning for season 2 as Kyle but that doesn’t necessarily mean that he’ll be romantically linked with Kyle’s friend, Gabriela. However, after the episode where Gabi chose Bode, Goo said the following, according to TVLine:

"I’d say it’s left pretty open-ended. I think Kyle has fallen even more for [Gabriela] after witnessing her on the job, and so if it were up to him, he’s probably down to stick around Edgewater for a bit."

So, with his return confirmed, we can pretty much bet that Kyle’s interest in Gabi hasn’t been put to bed yet. Could that leave him with an opportunity to try to woo her while Bode’s dealing with his own struggles? Probably but that could still end with her being disinterested in anything besides friendship with him. We’ll have to tune in to see.

What’s next for Gabriela Perez in Fire Country season 2?

Besides working to become a full fledged Cal Fire firefighter, and potentially being a part of the group who will eventually help Bode get back to Three Rock, she doesn’t have much on her plate. Of course, that could change if she learns that Cara had a child when she was 19 that might be Bode’s daughter, her father Manny slips again with his gambling, or there’s a dramatic plot surrounding something she hasn’t dealt with herself.
