A new drama is set to slot into The CW’s fall slate in September. The Swarm, a German series based on the bestselling book by Frank Schätzing, tells the story of an Earth whose greatest enemy lies beneath the ocean.
When sea creatures begin to revolt, taking lives and causing natural disasters, the world is thrown into chaos. A group of scientists postulate that these aren’t simply phenomena, and certainly aren’t isolated events, something is causing sea life to react like this. Though their findings are considered unbelievable, they press on knowing that if they don’t carry out their mission in the Artic Ocean, the being beneath the depths will drive humanity into extinction.
For the creature, this very much is war. Its witnessed the ways in which humans have destroyed life in the seven seas and it won’t rest until they are eradicated. The series makes its US broadcast debut on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. ET following a new episode of Inside the NFL.

The official synopsis via The CW:
"Around the world, strange happenings, borne out of the oceans: Whales destroy boats, deep sea crabs attack beaches, mussels block container ships. An unknown ice worm destabilizes continental slopes and triggers tsunamis. A deadly pathogen spreads into the drinking water. Across the globe, lives are increasingly imperiled, the situation worsening by the day—and yet, nobody can draw a connection between the seemingly random attacks. Except for a group of scientists who come together through their shared sense that something bigger is at play: an intelligent life force, dwelling in the deep—capable of manipulating the ocean, and everything that resides in it. A being which has borne witness to our destruction of the seas and has decided to drive us to extinction. But hardly anyone believes their findings. And so, the group is forced to undertake a life-threatening mission, tracking the intelligent life force within the Arctic Ocean. It is a mission they know may claim their lives."

When is The Swarm finale on The CW?
An official announcement has yet to be made, but the finale could air on Oct. 31 if The CW opts not to do a two-hour block of Halloween coverage. We’ll keep you posted.
