The Yellowstone Ranch and Dutton family have come to CBS! Amid the networks having to fill their television schedules without the traditional fall content due to the writers strike (now resolved) and actors strike (still ongoing), the company decided to bring the popular western series to the network. The show originally airs on the Paramount Network. Both companies are owned by Paramount Global, which is why Yellowstone CBS can happen!

On Sept. 17, 2023, the first season of the show debuted on CBS, with the season 1 finale having aired on Oct. 22. And it seems like it’s been such a success that the network has decided to begin airing the second season as well! And I can tell you I’m definitely here for it!

Yellowstone season 2 begins airing Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS. That day, only one episode will be broadcast. But after that, two new episodes will air on the network each week starting at 8 p.m. ET. This is what happened when season 1 first premiered. We shared the dates and times below:

  • Season 2 Episode 1, “A Thundering” – Oct. 29 at 9 p.m. ET
  • Season 2 Episode 2, “New Beginnings” – Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. ET

All about Yellowstone

According to a press release shared by Variety, a total of 6.6 million viewers watched the season 1 premiere episode on CBS. And throughout the nine-episode season, the show brought in a total of 21.6 million. So it’s really no surprise that the network decided to air season 2 as well. It’s also a smart idea as even though writers are back to work following the strike, actors are not yet. The guild is still on strike. And so, there’s still going to be content needed to fill the schedule. It’s not known if the third season will air on CBS next, but it probably will. We’ll keep you updated!

The show stars Kevin Costner as John Dutton III, Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, Kelly Reilly as Bethany “Beth” Dutton, Wes Bentley as James Michael “Jamie” Dutton, Cole Hauser as Rip Wheeler, and Gil Birmingham as Chief Thomas Rainwater.

The series has a total of five seasons. The first is nine episodes, with seasons 2-4 running for 10 episodes each. The fifth and final season has been split into two parts, coming in at 14 episodes. The first eight have already aired, but production on Yellowstone season 5 part 2 has been delayed due to reported behind-the-scenes issues, as well as the strikes. On Nov. 2, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter shared that the final six episodes will premiere in November 2024 on The Paramount Network.
