It’s hard to believe we’re already entering the spooky season and will soon be inundated with all things Halloween and movies that we love to binge during the month of October. This is the case for sure with the Scream movies. Since now is the time to begin figuring out our television viewing schedule when it comes to classic spooky films and shows, where can you stream the Scream movies in order?

The Scream franchise has spawned six films, including games and a television series, which aired for three seasons between 2015-2019 on MTV and then VH1. Directed by Wes Craven, Tyler Gillett, and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, the film follows a slasher who is only known as Ghostface as he terrorizes unsuspecting victims. In actuality, Ghostface isn’t just one murderer, but different people who use the persona to hide their identities.

Fans of the film franchise will most notably recognize Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette as just some of the actors who have starring roles throughout most of, if not all of the films. Of course, we wouldn’t want to spoil it too much for anyone who is just getting into the series. So where can you watch the Scream movies?

Scream movies in order and where to stream them

The movies take place chronologically from the first film until the sixth installment, which was just released in March 2023. In the fifth installment, the events that take place are set 25 years after the original murders that occurred in the town of Woodsboro.

Scream debuted in 1996 and you can find it for free on Roku. It is also available on AMC+, Paramount+, and Prime Video with a subscription. The first film introduces us to Sidney Prescott (Campbell), who is still grieving the murder of her mother when a mysterious killer begins tormenting her. This would introduce us to Ghostface, a masked killer who goes after unsuspecting teens and terrorizes Woodsboro.

Scream 2 was released a year after the first film in 1997. The film follows Campbell’s character, Sidney once more after she originally survived the events of the previous movie. In the film, there is a murder at the premiere of the film that was made about the events that occurred when Sidney was younger and along with other survivors, she is determined to find out who the killer is.

The movie is also available on Roku for free and you can watch it with a subscription to AMC+, Paramount+, and Prime Video.

The third film in the series was released in 2000. In Scream 3, a new killer is going after the cast of the third movie that was made about the events of the massacre depicted in the first Scream movie. You can watch the movie for free on Roku as well as with a subscription to Paramount+, AMC+ and Prime Video.

Scream 4 was released in 2011 and once again stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. This film would also be the last one directed by Wes Craven before he passed away four years later.

In the movie, Sidney Prescott returns to her hometown to promote a book she wrote but is once again tormented by Ghostface. Along with the returning stars, Emma Roberts, Lucy Hale, and Rory Culkin also have roles. Scream 4 is available on Starz with a subscription, along with Hulu and Prime Video.

Scream 5 was released in 2022 and saw the return of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette. This time, we met new faces in the form of Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Mikey Madison, and Dylan Minnette, Hayden Panettiere, and Jack Quaid. Directors Tyler Gillett, and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin took the reigns on this film.

In this installment, we find Ghostface returning to the town of Woodsboro and targeting teenagers who are connected to the previous killings. The film is available to stream with a subscription to Paramount+, Showtime, Hulu, and Prime Video. It is available on Roku as well, but only with a subscription.

The sixth installment of the franchise was released in 2023 and was the first film not to feature Neve Campbell, who opted not to return to the series. However, she does still get an honorable mention.

Starring Courteney Cox, Jenna Ortega, Melissa Barrera, Hayden Panettiere, and Samantha Weaving, Scream 6 follows the survivors of Scream 5 as they attempt to start over in New York City. Unfortunately, Ghostface is back to torment them once again. The film is available to watch with a subscription on Paramount+, the Roku channel, and Prime Video.

Scream 7 is in development. Hidden Remote will keep you posted on more news as it comes in.
