Orphan Black: Echoes release updates, trailer, cast and what else to know

The world of Orphan Black is about to expand majorly. The first trailer has hit for Orphan Black: Echoes. Just what is this new spin-off about and who stars in it?

Orphan Black premiered in 2013 and was the star-making role for Tatiana Maslany. She played Sarah, a con artist rocked when a woman who looks exactly like her jumps in front of a train. Sarah takes over her double’s life as a cop before discovering she’s one of a set of identical clones (all played by Maslany) who are part of a deadly conspiracy.

The show was a hit with massive accolades for Maslany’s performance, which earned her an Emmy award. It ended after five seasons, although a podcast series with the original cast continued the story with the clones being exposed to the public.

Now, the series is continuing with the spin-off, Orphan Black: Echoes, that promises to send the tale in a bold new direction.

What is Orphan Black: Echoes about?

So far, much of the plot is being kept under wraps. It does appear that it involves Lucy, a woman who wakes up in a lab while undergoing a strange procedure. She likely is one of a set of clones just like the original, but the company behind it has upped the ante. The trailer hints this will be a darker ride than the original show was.

Cast

The big star is Krysten Ritter in her first television series since the MCU story Jessica Jones. Given her experience with genre television, Ritter seems set to play clones if that’s where the show is going. Per Deadline, the cast also includes Keeley Hawes, Amanda Fix and Avan Jogia. Rya Kihlstedt plays Eleanor, a scientist; James Hiroyuki Liao is Paul Darros, “a self-made millionaire with a troubled past” and Reed Diamond is Tom, the head of security for Liao’s company.

When does Orphan Black: Echoes premiere?

The series was hoping to premiere in early 2023 to match the 10th anniversary of the original show. However, it hit some delays, and the ongoing strikes in Hollywood appeared to cut production more.
