Fellow Travelers cast: Who’s in the new Showtime series?

Actors Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey definitely have the intense onscreen chemistry needed to play their characters in the new Showtime series, Fellow Travelers! Choosing these two talents to take on the lead roles was definitely a great casting choice in my opinion. And I can’t wait to see what they bring to the historical romance.

Bomer takes on the role of Hawkins Fuller, while Bailey portrays Tim Laughlin. And get ready for a political thriller story to be mixed in with the historical romance. The eight-episode miniseries premieres Sunday, Oct. 29, 2023 at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime. But if you actually want to check it out before, the show begins streaming Friday, Oct. 27, 2023 on Paramount+. One new episode will be released weekly on their respective days.

Meet the cast of Fellow Travelers on Showtime

The story is centered around Hawkins Fuller (Bomer) and Tim Laughlin (Bailey). The two begin a romance during a time where it’s dangerous, with U.S. Senator Joseph McCarthy and the senator’s chief counsel Roy Cohn “declare war on subversives and sexual deviants,” per the synopsis. This was a dangerous time to be gay, and we’re going to see their story play out across four decades, starting in the ’50s. Will their love survive?

Matt Bomer as Hawkins Fuller

Matt Bomer is one of the co-leads, playing Hawkins Fuller. His character is described as a handsome and charismatic man who works in politics behind-the-scenes, per the synopsis. His job is financially rewarding, and he “avoids emotional entanglements.” That is until he meets Tim Laughlin.

Where have you seen him before?: Some of Matt Bomer’s known roles are Bryce Larkin on Chuck, Neal Caffrey in White Collar, Ken in Magic Mike, and Andy in the American Horror Story franchise, in particular season 5.

Jonathan Bailey as Tim Laughlin

Jonathan Bailey is the second co-lead in the project. He takes on the role of political staffer Tim Laughlin. His character is described as a pious young man, “brimming” with idealism and religious faith. Tim falls for Hawkins, just as much as Hawkins falls for Tim.

Where have you seen him before?: Jonathan Bailey gained worldwide recognition for his role as Anthony Bridgerton in the Netflix period romance, Bridgerton. Though the actor has been working from a very young age! When he was eight years old, he took part in the stage performance of Les Misérables as Gavroche. His other acting credits include Danny Gordon in Off the Hook, Jack Patterson in W1A, and will play Fiyero Tigelaar in the upcoming Wicked: Part One and Wicked: Part Two movies.

Allison Williams as Lucy

Allison Williams is an actress and producer, now known as a “scream queen” for her roles in horror movies. But this time around, she’s taking on a different role in Fellow Travelers. Based on the trailers, it seems like she’s a love interest to Hawkins. At least on the outside. It’s not clear whether or not she knows he’s actually interested in men.

Where have you seen her before?: Some of Williams’ most notable roles include Marnie Michaels in Girls, Rose Armitage in Get Out, Charlotte Willmore in Perfection, and Gemma in M3GAN. She’s set to reprise her role in the sequel, M3GAN 2.0, as well.

Jelani Alladin as Marcus Hooks

Where have you seen him before?: Jelani Alladin started his career on Broadway, playing Kristoff in the musical version of Frozen as well as the titular character in Hercules. His other roles include David in Tick, Tick… Boom!, Alex Bryant in FBI, Sean Thomas in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Will Campbell in The Walking Dead: World Beyond.

Noah J. Ricketts as Frankie

Where have you seen him before?: Rickett’s character Frankie and Alladin’s Marcus seem to be love interests based on promotional images. The actor seems to still be early in his career. Some of his acting credits are Kevin in Summoning Sylvia, Matthew in Christmas Déjà Vu, Kai in American Gods, and River in High Fidelity.
