Morgan Fairchild (Nora from Friends) pays tribute to ‘son’ Matthew Perry after his passing
Tragedy struck Hollywood this weekend when actor Matthew Perry was found unresponsive in his Pacific Palisades, Los Angeles home on the afternoon of Saturday, Oct. 28. The Friends star passed away at the age of 54.
TMZ broke the unfortunate news, originally reporting that Perry had died of an apparent drowning in his jacuzzi, then adding that sources told them he passed away in his house after playing pickleball for two hours. At the time of this writing, an official cause of death has not been confirmed, though it’s been reported it doesn’t look like foul play was involved, and TMZ shares that no drugs were found at the scene.
As expected, Friends fans are absolutely devastated at the loss of Perry, who played the loveable Chandler Bing in all 10 seasons of the NBC sitcom. Celebrities are also paying tribute to their former co-star/peer across social media, and while the main cast of Friends has yet to post, other special parts of the series have spoken up.
Morgan Fairchild, other Friends actresses react to Matthew Perry’s death
Morgan Fairchild, who memorably portrayed Chandler’s mom Nora Tyler Bing in a handful of Friends episodes, took to X (formerly known as Twitter) on Saturday night to share a heartfelt tribute to her former co-star. Saying she is “heartbroken,” Fairchild called her “son” a “brilliant young actor.” She sent her love to Perry’s loved ones, specifically his father John Bennett Perry, who Fairchild had also co-starred with.
Other Friends actresses have shared their thoughts on Perry’s passing on social media, with Paget Brewster, who played Chandler’s love interest Kathy, as well as Maggie Wheeler, who portrayed his on-and-off girlfriend Janice, paying tribute.
Brewster shared that Perry was “lovely” to her on the set of Friends and “decades later,” urging her followers to read his book:
Wheeler says she feels “very blessed” to have worked with Perry:
Perry was undoubtedly an inspiration on and off screen, with Friends fans loving his comedic moments as Chandler Bing, as well as his vulnerable ones. Those who had been following the actor know he struggled with addiction for years and had gotten sober after nearly dying from opioid use. The actor penned a memoir in 2022 called Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, in which he discussed his rise to fame, his time working on Friends, and his sobriety journey. Fans were incredibly inspired by his openness and willingness to help others who might be experiencing what he did.
Our thoughts are with Perry’s loved ones in this heartbreaking time.
