It’s been a tough week for the fans and loved ones of Friends star Matthew Perry, who sadly passed away on Saturday, Oct. 28 after being found unresponsive in his Los Angeles home. The actor was 54 at the time of his death.

Perry famously played the sarcastic, loveable character Chandler Bing throughout all 10 seasons of Friends, in which he had some of the best moments and funniest quotes. If you love Friends, you certainly love Perry’s portrayal, which landed him an Emmy Award nomination. Off-screen, the late actor was an inspiration to fans across the globe, as he was very outspoken about his struggles with addiction.

It’s easy to understand why people regard Perry as a comedic genius and overall treasure in the entertainment industry, which makes his passing all the more heartbreaking. His legacy, of course, will live on with his performances in TV and movies, as well as his 2022 memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing.

Another way Perry’s legacy could live on, as reported by TMZ on Friday, Nov. 3, is through a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. According to the publication, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce says they would love to honor the late actor by giving him a posthumous star and ceremony, but his family would have to approve it. Apparently, Perry was chosen for a star back in 2013, but that never panned out.

His selection reportedly expired in 2018, but the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce tells TMZ they believe they could get it renewed. At this time, however, they have not spoken to Perry’s family. We can’t think of any reason why his family wouldn’t want Perry to receive a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and it would be such an impactful ceremony. But we’ll have to wait and see if that’s something they’re even up for, and how soon. Of course, fans would expect the cast of Friends to show up, but I’m certain they need their private time to grieve right now.

Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, and David Schwimmer released a joint statement regarding Perry’s passing, saying they are “utterly devastated.”

"“We were more than just cast mates. We are a family,” their statement reads. “There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss.”"

Our thoughts are with Perry’s loved ones and his fans during this heartbreaking time.
