What to expect from Lawmen: Bass Reeves on Paramount+

The Western is all about Bass Reeves, based on the real-life figure from history. He was the first Black law enforcement officer in Mississippi, per the synopsis. He rose from enslavement to upholding the law as U.S. Marshal Reeves. The show takes places between 1862 and 1877, per TV Insider. And during those years, he’s had a successful career, but that’s taken a toll “with its moral and spiritual cost to his beloved family.”

Taking on the role of the titular character is David Oyelowo, who also takes on executive producer duties. Lauren E. Banks as Bass’ wife Jennie Reeves; Demi Singleton as Bass’ daughter Sally Reeves; Forrest Goodluck as Billy Crow; Dennis Quaid as Sherrill Lynn; Barry Pepper as Esau Pierce; and Donald Sutherland as Judge Isaac Parker round out the cast.

According to a press release, the plan is to make this an anthology series, with a focus on other lawmen and outlaws who have made their mark on history. I’d definitely want to see more of the show and other real-life personalities! What about you?
