Where was Lawmen: Bass Reeves filmed?

Like any other Western like Yellowstone, Lawmen: Bass Reeves features many beautiful outdoor landscapes to bring the show to life right before our eyes! If you’ve checked out the new series, you’ll know that the Paramount+ show is no different than any other cow-boy centric story. And of course, these locations were shot in real places. So where was it filmed?

Lawmen: Bass Reeves was mostly filmed in North Texas in five cities, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. And while the Bass Reeves-centric series is not connected to Yellowstone, the popular show’s creator, Taylor Sheridan, does serve as an executive producer on Lawmen. We go into further detail below on why that’s relevant. In the meantime, we shared the main Texan cities where the Western set up production:

• Fort Worth, Texas
• Glen Rose, Texas
• Weatherford, Texas
• Stephenville, Texas
• Strawn, Texas

In 2021, it was announced the show was in development and had officially been confirmed by Paramount+. Then, filming began in January 2023, and wrapped on June 5, 2023, according to director Christina Alexandra Voros on Instagram. We don’t have many known and exact filming locations, but we do know of a few. Below, we give you all the details!

Lawmen: Bass Reeves was filmed in some of the same spots as Yellowstone prequel 1883

If you’re a fan of Yellowstone and its multiple spin-offs, you may recognize some locations in Lawmen: Bass Reeves. That’s because 1883 was also filmed in North Texas. And as mentioned above, though Reeves’ story is not connected to the Dutton’s, we have Sheridan part of the behind-the-scenes team. And that means his very own ranch served as a filming location!

Bosque Ranch in Weatherford, Texas

Sheridan owns Bosque Ranch in Weatherford, Texas. And so like his creation 1883, the Bass Reeves executive producer also allowed filming to take place at his ranch. It may not have been the main filming location, but some of the scenes do take place at Bosque. Per the ranch’s website, currently there’s events and competitions that happen. Though Sheridan is planning to bring more events like film and TV shoots (which he’s started to do), concerts, music festivals, charity events, and dining experiences. The ranch is located at 100 Arena Run, Weatherford, TX.

Historic Granbury Square in Granbury, Texas

According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, the historic Granbury Square was changed up to serve as the 1860s – 1870s Fort Worth we see in the series. The square is located at 201 E Pearl St b202, Granbury, TX. Per its website, the location offers boutique shopping, live entertainment, dining, art, and festival and events.
