The Marvels cast: Which Marvel stars return in the new movie?
The newest film from Marvel Studios, called The Marvels, is a sequel to the 2019 film, Captain Marvel, but in some ways its also a follow-up to the Ms. Marvel series. The plural title of the film is a reflection of the trio of characters in The Marvels cast that we’ll see working together as heroes in the new movie — all of whom we’ve met in previous Marvel film or television projects.
The Marvels began production in summer 2021 in England and was directed by Nia DaCosta. Though we don’t know much about the plot of the film and how it involves the Kree, we do know that one major hurdle for the trio of heroes is that every time they use their powers, they’ll physically swap places with one another.
Who is in The Marvels cast?
There are three main female leads in The Marvels cast, all of whom have been featured in prior films and/or television shows within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel, is played by Brie Larson. The first Captain Marvel movie was released in 2019, but the character has also been featured in several other Avengers films and projects within the MCU.
Fighting alongside Captain Marvel are two other female stars in the MCU, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau. Kamala Khan, known as Ms. Marvel and played by actress Iman Vellani, was introduced in the Ms. Marvel mini-series on Disney+ in 2022.
Captain Monica Rambeau, played by Teyonah Parris, is arguably most-remembered from the popular Marvel mini-series Wandavision (where she was first shown with her powers), but the character was introduced before that series as a young girl in Captain Marvel. Nick Fury, played by Samuel L Jackson, is also part of The Marvels cast.
