It’s almost time for Blackpool Week on Strictly Come Dancing and you can sure bet that it was mentioned once or twice on tonight’s Week 8 live show. Okay, seriously, it was mentioned a lot as the excitement was in the air and all of the couples were eager to make it to the brightest night on Strictly.

But how exactly did the couples fare on such a high energy night? Well, high energy is the right word because this was for sure one of the highest standards of dancing in one night we’ve seen all series, as there were impressive dances all around (and even some surprises in there!).

So just what did go down on Strictly Week 8? Did Angela and Kai bounce back from last week’s Dance-Off? Could Annabel and Johannes bring the shimmies to the Samba? And was Layton and Nikita’s long-awaited Argentine Tango worth that wait?

*** This article contains spoilers from Strictly Week 8’s Saturday Night show. If you have not watched this week’s episode yet and don’t want the dances or scores spoiled for you, don’t read on! ***

Strictly spoilers and results: Week 8 Leaderboard

Well what a night that was! The earliest episode of the series, Strictly wasted little time getting into an evening of memorable routines and genuinely shocking moments that had the judges on their feet three times.

Annabel and Johannes wowed the judges with an energetic Samba that allowed the former to truly let loose and have a good time on the dance floor, Angela Rippon and Kai delivered a powerful Paso Doble that showcased they were back on top form after last week’s trip to the Dance-Off, and Layton and Nikita brought the house down with a sensational Argentine Tango that closed the show on a high note. Ellie and Vito were also impressive with the Rumba, and Nigel and Katya produced a beautiful Couple’s Choice routine.

Here are the results from the Strictly Week 8 Saturday night show, the scores, and the Leaderboard we were left with:

  • Layton and Nikita danced the Argentine Tango – 9, 10, 10, 10
  • Ellie and Vito danced the Rumba – 8, 9, 9, 9 = 35
  • Nigel and Katya danced their Couple’s Choice – 8, 8, 9, 9 = 34
  • Angela S and Carlos danced the Waltz – 7, 9, 8, 9 = 33
  • Bobby and Dianne danced the American Smooth – 7, 8, 8, 9 = 32
  • Angela R and Kai danced the Paso Doble – 8, 8, 8, 8 = 32
  • Annabel and Johannes danced the Samba – 7, 8, 8, 8 = 31
  • Krishnan and Lauren danced the Samba – 5, 7, 6, 7 = 25

Who is in danger on Strictly Week 8?

Every week that Leaderboard gets smaller and smaller, which means there are less points between the couples at the top and the couples at the bottom. Something that could throw tonight’s Leaderboard upside down is the fact that there is a tie, which means there are even less points between them than there should be.

As it was such a high standard of dancing tonight, someone who had a very good night could end up in danger. We always say that the couples in the middle of the Leaderboard are in the most jeopardy and that might well be the case here. Krishnan has proven to be popular with the public on multiple occasions, avoiding the Dance-Off from some very precarious positions, but he is placed directly at the bottom of the Leaderboard and his dance score is quite far out from the couple second from bottom. With that in mind, he’s in the most danger tonight.

The three couples above him are in the most danger as well. Annabel and Johannes have proven to be incredibly popular with the public in the past too, so don’t be surprised if they avoid the Dance-Off again this week (especially as they had a very good night). And then there’s Angela Rippon and Kai, who also had a very good night. They may well avoid the Dance-Off, but they aren’t high enough to be considered “completely safe”. And the same goes for Bobby and Dianne.

Right now, we’re predicting Krishnan will land in the Dance-Off against one of the three couples above him. But, as always, the public vote could change all that.

Update, Sunday November 12: Krishnan and Lauren did indeed find themselves in the Dance-Off with Angela Rippon and Kai. The three voting judges unanimously voted to save Angela and Kai (which isn’t surprising given they had a much stronger performance). However, Head Judge Shirley shockingly said she would have saved Krishnan and Lauren.

Nevertheless, Krishnan and Lauren were eliminated from the competition. To say that they have been a delightful couple would be an understatement. It’s been a joy watching Krishnan learn to dance and they certainly delivered some wonderful routines. Relive their amazing Quickstep below:
