Updated Nov. 13, 2023 – We were first introduced to sports drama All American: Homecoming in 2022 when the series premiered on The CW. The show serves as a spin-off to All American, and we definitely enjoy watching it as much as we love turning in to the flagship series as well! What’s the latest news about All American: Homecoming season 3?

The television production was created by Nkechi Okoro Carroll, with David Madden, Robbie Rogers, Sarah Schechter, Greg Berlanti,, Lindsay Dunn, and Marqui Jackson serving as executive producers. Here’s all we know about the third season ahead of its release!

All American: Homecoming season 3 release updates

The good news is that season 3 of the series is happening! We got the renewal news from the network in June 2023. Right now though, no release date has been announced for All American: Homecoming season 3. The sports drama should have been back as part of The CW‘s fall 2023 schedule, but the premiere date has been pushed because of the Hollywood strikes (more on that below). While we don’t have a release date, The Hollywood Reporter shares that filming for All American: Homecoming season 3 will begin in January 2024.

The third season will have a total of 13 episodes. The episode count is the same as the first season, but two less than the second season. Of course when it comes back, new episodes will air on The CW. Currently, the first two seasons of the drama are streaming on Netflix. And if you want to watch the flagship series, the first five seasons of All American are also streaming on Netflix.

Is the sports drama affected by the strikes?

Yes, All American: Homecoming season 3 has been affected by the writers strike and the actors strike. Since the series got renewed on June 12, 2023, the writers strike had already gone into effect by then. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) stopped working May 2, 2023. That means no scripts were written for the third season yet.

But we come bearing good news! Following multiple negotiations, the WGA and Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) who represents the big studios came to an agreement as of Sept. 25, 2023. That’s when the writers strike was officially over! The guild voted and ratified the new contract, which is effective for three years until May 1, 2026. While at this time many writers rooms for multiple shows have gone back to work, we’re not sure if that’s the case for All American: Homecoming just yet. It’s very possible the writers are back to work, it just hasn’t been reported yet. I for one am hopeful that scripts are being written for the new season!

And though that’s the case, budget cuts at The CW, which also affected the cast (more on that below), has seen the number of writers being able to come back cut down. On All American: Homecoming, two staff writers were cut, per Deadline. So season 3 went from having nine writers on staff to now seven. Another show affected on the network is Superman & Lois, going down from eight writers to five. For All American season 6 though, there have been no writer cuts.

And after months of waiting, the actors strike has also come to an end! The Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA), officially went on strike on July 14, 2023. That means no actors can work or film projects at this time. But on Nov. 9, 2023, the guild and AMPTP came to a tentative agreement, which meant actors could get back to filming. So even though season 3 doesn’t start production back up until January 2024, it’s still good to know and we can be rest assured that work will resume on the series once again.

Cast: Who’s returning as a series regular?

All of the main cast members are set to return in the third season, but the status for some of them will look different. Peyton Alex Smith and Kelly Jenrette will not be returning as series regulars. Instead, they will be recurring cast members, per TVLine.

Smith’s character Damon Sims has been one of the main characters that the story focuses on. So having less screen time for his character is kind of unusual and will be interesting to see. When the show was renewed in June 2023, it was reported that the network had to make “significant budget cuts” in order for the series to return, per the news outlet. That’s probably why two series regulars have now become recurring cast members. We shared the cast list from TVLine below:

Series regulars:

  • Geffri Maya as Simone Hicks
  • Sylvester Powell as JR Raymond
  • Netta Walker as Keisha McCalla
  • Mitchell Edwards as Cam Watkins
  • Cory Hardrict as Marcus Turner (series regulars on reduced guarantee = appear in fewer episodes)
  • Rhoyle Ivy King as Nathaniel Hardin (series regulars on reduced guarantee = appear in fewer episodes)

Recurring cast members:

  • Peyton Alex Smith as Damon Sims
  • Kelly Jernette as Amara Patterson

Unknown if series regular or recurring:

  • Camille Hyde as Thea Mays
