Outlander’s Sam Heughan in psychological drama The Couple Next Door: Everything we know

Updated Nov. 13, 2023 – Starz original series Outlander has such a big following, and honestly we are all huge Sam Heughan fans. That’s why we’re so excited the actor has another project coming out! And that’s The Couple Next Door.

The psychological drama is written by David Allison and directed by Dries Vos. Joining the duo behind the scenes are executive producers Jo McGrath, Walter Iuzzolino, and Alison Kee. Jen Burnet serves as a producer on the project.

According to a press release, production wrapped filming in Leeds, England and Belgium in the early part of summer 2023. And now it’s headed our way soon. Here’s everything we know about the series ahead of its release!

Has The Couple Next Door release date been announced yet?

An official release date has not been announced for the six-episode show yet on Starz yet. Though we do know thatThe Couple Next Door will be released at some point in 2024 on Starz for U.S. and Canadian viewers. The network will most likely offer a television linear debut, as well as a streaming option.

If you live in the UK, then you’ll be able to watch it earlier. And there’s a premiere date! All six episodes will be available to stream on Channel 4 starting on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023. This is definitely exciting news and hopefully that means the 2024 North American release date isn’t too far.

What is The Couple Next Door about?

The “deliciously dark” story is centered around two couples – Evie and Pete, and Becka and Danny, per the synopsis. When Evie and Pete move into an upscale neighborhood, they feel out of place as the community can be stress and anxiety-inducing. When they make friends with the married Danny and Becka, the two couples start to get close to each other and “one fateful night, become sexually entangled in a way that will change their lives forever.”

On Nov. 6, 2023, Channel 4 released the trailer for the new production. And actor Sam Heughan shared it on X. Check out the video below:

Is The Couple Next Door based on a book?

Yes, The Couple Next Door is based on a book of the same name by author Shari Lapena. The novel was published in 2016. Now whether the story is good is up to you to decide. On Goodreads, the book has a 3.8/5 score, and 91% of Google users reported that they liked the novel. I wonder how closely the television adaptation will follow the book.

Cast: Who stars alongside Outlander actor Sam Heughan?

I’ll be honest. The actor I’m most excited to see is Outlander star Sam Heughan! The show’s seventh season aired its midseason finale on Aug. 4, 2023 and now we wait for the second half of episodes to come sometime in 2024. The actor plays Scottish Highlander Jamie Fraser and stars alongside Caitríona Balfe as Claire Fraser.

Jessica De Gouw is an Australian actress known for her roles in Arrow, Dracula, and Underground. You might recognize actress Eleanor Tomlinson from The Outlaws where she played Lady Gabriella “Gabby” Penrose-Howe, while Alfred Enoch is best known for being Dean Thomas in the Harry Potter film series and Wes Gibbins in How to Get Away with Murder.
