Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire brings the winter chill in 2024: What you need to know about the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel
The Ghostbusters are back with the first trailer for Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire. Look at how this continuation of the epic franchise will bring a fun chill to moviegoers in 2024!
In 2021, the Ghostbusters franchise was revived with Ghostbusters: Afterlife, which brought back the cast of the hit 1984 movie. That included using CGI to show the character of Egon Spengler, played by Harold Ramis, who passed away in 2014.
The storyline had a pack of teens finding the old Ghostbusters equipment, fighting some spirits before the original team showed up to help them defeat Gozer. Afterlife ended with Winston (Ernie Hudson) returning the old Ecto-1 car to the Ghosbusters’ New York firehouse headquarters and the indication they’d be reopening the business.
That obviously left the door open for a sequel and it looks wild.
What is Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire about?
The trailer shows a hot summer day in New York City interrupted by a threat that literally freezes the town over. The Spenglers and the Ghostbusters realize some sort of ancient force is ready to spread this new Ice Age across the planet and must fight to stop it.
"“In Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, the Spengler family returns to where it all started – the iconic New York City firehouse – to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who’ve developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.”"
Who stars in Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire?
Sadly, the movie will be without Ivan Reitman, who directed the first two films and was a creative force on Afterlife but passed away in 2022. It was written by his son, Jason, and directed by Gil Kenan.
The entire cast of Afterlife will be back and also returning is William Atherton as smarmy bureaucrat Walter Peck. Along with them are Patton Oswalt and Kumail Nanjiani in some so-far secretive roles.
