American Idol 2024: American Idol season 22 is coming to ABC in February 2024 (Release date news)

American Idol fans, I come bearing wonderful news! ABC recently released its 2024 midseason schedule and American Idol season 22 is on the list. And so that means we have the release date of our favorite singing competition show’s new season. Drum roll please….

American Idol season 22 premieres Sunday, Feb. 18, 2024 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC! Plus, be sure to free up your evening that night because the new season’s debut is going to be two hours long. Like in the past, new episodes will be available to stream on Hulu the next day on Mondays. Check out the announcement from the show’s official Twitter page below:

The release date is actually a delightful surprise as the network had previously announced season 22 was coming out in spring 2024. So we were predicting a March release date, even though the past few seasons have been premiering in February. Though the Hollywood strikes (now resolved) didn’t affect production of the show because it’s a competition series not scripted, I thought there was a chance the new season might be pushed a little bit as the fall 2023 television projects would all be coming back at around the same time. But if you actually check out ABC’s midseason schedule, it’s really thought out and I think it’s definitely going to work.

And as you saw in the video above, I’m also so happy to report that all three of our favorite judges – Katy Perry, Lionel Richie, and Luke Bryan – will be returning to take a seat behind the table. Though on Feb. 12, 2024, Perry announced American Idol season 22 is going to be her last. Their job is a tough one. But it’s up to them at the beginning to narrow down the list of contestants, and I think they do a pretty good job! Plus, host Ryan Seacrest is coming back to take on MC duties.

I absolutely cannot wait to see American Idol 2024! Last season, Iam Tongi took home the win, and it was very much deserved. And the runner-ups, Megan Danielle and Colin Stough, were equally as talented as the Hawaii-native. The whole season was so interesting and showcased how great these singing hopefuls are.

That’s what I love about this show! Even though of course there can only be one winner, we get to meet and go on a journey with so many other talents throughout. So even if the other contestants aren’t crowned the American Idol, that doesn’t mean they’ve lost in my books! Many of them go on to still have successful music careers. And the competition series is a platform for potential exposure. So many successes have come out of the show, like Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, and Jennifer Hudson. I can’t wait to see which new stars will shine this season!
