Leave the World Behind is the only movie you need to watch this weekend

Another weekend means there are several new movies coming to theaters and streamers. But, as far as we’re concerned, Leave the World Behind on Netflix is the only movie you need to see.
The holiday season makes us all gravitate towards family-friendly Christmas movies. And while this is fun and jolly, if you feel like you need a break, we don’t blame you! Tired of gift-wrapping, shopping, and the kids have played The Grinch and The Polar Express one too many times? Step into the dark side and watch Sam Esmail’s Leave the World Behind (after the kids go to sleep, of course).
Leave the World behind premieres on Netflix Friday, Dec. 8. So, for one, this movie is already a winner because it’s going to be available on streaming. After all, no one is trying to leave the house during the busiest time of the year. Not to mention, parents don’t need to get a babysitter. The psychological thriller comes to us from Sam Esmail, who is best known for Mr. Robot, the USA Network hit series Esmail created. Needless to say, Esmail knows the psychological thriller genre very well.
Esmail’s latest project follows a Amanda (Julia Roberts), Clay (Ethan Hawke) and their kids, leasing a home while on vacation. Their world is turned upside down when the family is visited by two strangers, the owners of the home, who inform the unsuspecting guests about a “mysterious blackout,” Netflix teased. From the reviews we’ve read, the less you know about the movie going in, the better. Watch the trailer below:
At the time of this writing, the movie has a 75% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes. Another reason to watch is for the powerhouse of a cast Leave the World Behind features! Critics are praising Julia Roberts, Ethan Hawke, Kevin Bacon, and Mahershala Ali’s performances in the movie.
We mean it, though, when we said wait until the kids fall asleep to watch this one! It is rated R for sexual content, brief bloody images, language, and drug use. Stream the movie this Friday, Dec. 8, only on Netflix.
