3 The Rookie characters we'd love to see again in season 9

We'd love to see these three characters make an appearance in season 9 of The Rookie.

The Rookie may not be returning until 2027, but that hasn't stopped us from getting excited about the new season.

Based on that jaw-dropping season 8 cliffhanger, season 9 is poised to deliver heartfelt moments and exhilarating action. Hopefully, it will also answer some burning questions we have left over from season 8. Will the LAPD finally be able to put Liam Glasser away? How will Chenford survive their kidnapping? And perhaps most importantly, who will be a part of the rescue team?

We might have a few suggestions for the answer to that last question. Here are three characters from The Rookie that we'd love to see in season 9.

NIECY NASH-BETTS, FELIX SOLIS
THE ROOKIE: FEDS - From the executive producers of flagship series "The Rookie" comes "The Rookie: Feds," starring Niecy Nash-Betts as Simone Clark, the oldest rookie in the FBI Academy. The spinoff was introduced as a two-part event during the current fourth season of "The Rookie," where Officer John Nolan (Nathan Fillion) and the L.A. division of the FBI enlist the help of Simone Clark when one of her former students is a suspect in a terror attack. 3. Matthew Garza

Admittedly, we were a little disappointed when ABC cancelled The Rookie: Feds. The show wasn't perfect, but it had its own charm. One of its biggest strengths was its cast, including Felix Solis' portrayal of FBI Supervisory Agent Matthew Garza.

It was nice to see Solis recur as Garza in season 8 of The Rookie. The character was instrumental in taking down Monica Stevens, despite her eventual escape. He could also be extremely useful in finding Chenford, given the amount of resources the FBI has. Regardless of the reason, it would be nice to see the character grace our screens again.

FELIX SOLIS, NIECY NASH-BETTS, NATHAN FILLION
THE ROOKIE: FEDS - "Bloodline" - The FBI takes on a case from LAPD involving a serial murderer who has been leaving limbs across state lines. After the team follows a lead from Antoinette and Elena's forensic breakthroughs, the killer retaliates against Laura. TUESDAY, APRIL 25 (9:00-10:00 p.m. EDT), on ABC. 2. Elena Flores

While we would love to see Garza in season 9, it might be hard for the character to appear, given that Solis just landed a role as a series regular on the NBC reboot of The Rockford Files. That being said, we wouldn't mind him sending someone else in his place, namely his niece Elena (Michelle Natalie Nunez).

Elena meshed well with the other characters on The Rookie in season 8. She formed a nice friendship with Celina and Miles and was extremely helpful in solving cases. That's why we'd love to see her role expand for season 9. For instance, Elena could become The Rookie's resident tech genius. Most of their cases involve technology anyway, so it would make sense for the character to stick around and help them out.

RICHARD T. JONES, TRU VALENTINO
THE ROOKIE - “Poetic Justice” – Officer Nolan and team are on a hunt to retrieve a buried stash of gold before any treasure seekers get hurt. Meanwhile, Bradford is tasked with encouraging the oldest cop at the station to retire and invites him to ride with him on an all-new episode of “The Rookie,” SUNDAY, NOV. 7 (10:00-11:00 p.m. EST), on ABC. 1. Aaron Thorsen

A highlight of season 8 was the return of beloved character Aaron Thorsen (Tru Valentino). The character brings a fun energy to The Rookie that is greatly missed when he leaves. If anything, it's a wonder he doesn't appear more often. That's why season 9 would be a good time to bring Valentino back as a recurring guest star.

We find it hard to believe Aaron wouldn't come running upon hearing what happened to Chenford. His close friendship with Lucy would make it hard to stay away. Not to mention, Aaron has access to a ton of resources that could be instrumental in saving both Lucy and Bradford. But even if he's not leading the charge, it would still make a lot of sense for the character to be part of the rescue team in some capacity.

Season 9 of The Rookie premieres in January 2027 on ABC.
