911 season 10 got off to an amazing start, with a thrilling emergency that led to a volcano and diving into the different dynamics at play with the characters. One of the storylines that got off the ground running was Evan “Buck” Buckley’s new role as a foster parent. Even with one episode having already aired, there’s so much to discuss about his new role in young Theo’s life.
At the end of season 9, Buck’s old friend and roommate, Connor, and his wife, Kameron, tragically passed away in a car accident. Their son, Theo, who Buck had helped conceive via sperm donation, was left without parents, and Buck eventually stepped in to foster him.

Buck has a lot of work to do when it comes to learning to be a parent on 911
Theo is a rambunctious four-year-old, and it is clear Buck is struggling when it comes to parenting him. In the episode, he ends up in the ER after Theo inadvertently hit him in the face. While it was clearly an accident, Buck’s best friend Eddie Diaz could tell Buck hadn’t done much in the way of disciplining him.
Being a good friend, Eddie clearly didn’t want to overstep and tell Buck what to do. He also has had experience stepping into his own parenting role since he was in the army for the first few years of his son Christopher’s life. Even when he came back and tried to take care of Christopher, he had some growing pains in eventually being his sole caregiver.
Buck has never had to parent a child before. He has taken care of his niece and nephew, Jee-Yun and Nash Buckley Han, and while he has helped Eddie with Christopher over the years, it’s a completely different experience having your own child to look after.
Plus, Buck’s experiences growing up didn’t help him learn how to appropriately make sure Theo is a little more careful at his age. His parents usually ignored him unless he was hurt and he didn’t feel the love from them that he had craved for so long.
At one point while having dinner with Eddie and Christopher, Theo accidentally bumped into Christopher and caused him to fall. There was clearly tension, and Buck realized they needed to go, and Eddie held his tongue. But at some point, it would be helpful for him and Buck to communicate and for Buck to get help and support when it comes to learning how to be a parent.
Eddie is in a good position to help Buck out, and he may also go to Buck’s sister, Maddie, for backup since we know there is supposed to be an upcoming scene between them. We just hope that Buck gets more support than criticism since this is a new area for him to navigate.
So far, this is a great storyline for Buck to navigate, and it would be amazing to see him get support from his family and friends who know what it is like to be a parent. With the current emergency taking up time for the firefighters, it may take a little bit to get there. However, fans are looking forward to seeing how Buck gets that support so he can make sure he doesn’t have anymore ER visits for injuries caused by a toddler.
911 airs Thursdays on ABC at 8/7c.
