911 is known for the rich relationships on the show between the main cast members who make up Firehouse 118 and their families. Of course, over the years we have seen them all interact in different ways, but recently, two stars began to play up an upcoming scene between their characters. Why is a scene between Jennifer Love Hewitt’s Maddie Han and Ryan Guzman’s Eddie Diaz the current topic of conversation?

On social media, Hewitt shared an Instagram video with Guzman, revealing they were finally having a long-awaited scene together. “Meddie is born,” she excitedly said, which is amusing enough on its own. However, normally the actors on the show don’t always hype up their scenes with one another. So why did this one cause waves?

911 season 10 will have a one-on-one scene for two characters who usually do not interact

Longtime 911 fans know the story behind the characters and how they appeared in season 2. Originally, Eddie was brought in as a love interest for Maddie, who is the older sister of Evan “Buck” Buckley (Oliver Stark). But Hewitt decided she wanted her character to end up with Kenny Choi’s Howie “Chimney” Han, and the rest is history. Since then, fans have noticed that there have never been one-on-one scenes with these two characters.

Sure, they have shared a handful of scenes, but always with a group. Maddie did address Eddie once in Season 3 when she teased him about making the idea of going to war sound good to Chimney’s younger brother, Albert. Then, we saw them interact on Maddie and Chimney’s wedding day in Season 6, when Eddie and Buck lost track of the groom himself.

Then in season 9, fans noticed them sitting together during a dinner where Chimney was in the middle of a fight with fellow Firefighter Hen Wilson (Aisha Hinds). So while they have appeared in scenes together, there has never been a scene of just the two of them.

So what exactly is the big deal when it comes to a Maddie and Eddie scene, and why do people want one? For starters, fans of the popular fanon ship Buddie, between Buck and Eddie themselves, feel that a scene between them could show how Eddie really feels about Buck, if anything more than friendly feelings, and Maddie might encourage something between them. However, this is less likely, as Eddie has declared he is straight, and Buck told Maddie back in season 8 that he does not have romantic feelings for his best friend.

Regardless, the most likely reason that Maddie and Eddie share a scene might be about Buck, but not in the way most people would assume. Buck recently became a foster father to his own biological son, and the two might be talking about their feelings about this new change in his life. Eddie is a single father as well, and Maddie loves her brother and may have concerns, but they might also be sharing their hopes of being supportive of him.

Although we have seen characters discussing Buck behind his back that wasn’t always so positive, we hope that Maddie and Eddie do show that they have faith in Buck’s abilities to be a good dad. He is a great uncle to Maddie’s kids and has helped out with Eddie’s son, Christopher, when his best friend needed him. So to see them team up to support Buck would be a great way to show they are on his side.

So now that these two characters will be sharing a scene after all these years, we’re looking forward to seeing what that looks like. After all, eight seasons of avoiding each other almost become a game, and now, we get to see the outcome.

911 season 10 premieres Thursday, Oct. 15 on ABC at 8/7c.
