Could we see the 911: Lone Star characters in a spin-off? (Don't count on it)
Fans of 911: Lone Star are hopeful the characters may make their way to other 911 shows but there's some bad news on that front!
911: Lone Star fans have had a tricky time as of late. Season 4 ended in May 2023, with plans for Season 5 put off when the 2023 Hollywood strikes happened. When the strikes ended, rather than a shortened season, Fox decided to simply hold the show off until fall 2024.
Then a wrinkle hit when Sierra McClain announced she was leaving the series with her character Grace written out and changing a storyline for Jim Parrack's Judd. Then Fox confirmed speculation that Season 5 would be the last one.
The franchise will continue with the mothership 911 on ABC and there are plans for a spinoff. That has fans eager to know if any characters can jump to said spinoff. However, speaking to TVLine, co-showrunner Rashad Raisani said that may be beyond his control.
"I love all of these actors and characters, so never say never. To be honest, I do feel like we ended too soon. Realistically and logistically, I know that this is it for the show in its current iteration, but I just keep hoping against hope that it finds a way. I don't have full control over [bringing characters to the spinoff], but if I'm able to make it happen, I will."
It would be a shame if we never got to see any of these characters again, given how much potential there is in spinoffs.
Who could jump from 911: Lone Star to another show?
There are a few characters in Lone Star who could jump to another show. The last episode had Owen (Rob Lowe) offered a spot as a fire chief in New York. While he turned it down then, Owen's reputation in Houston may lead to him being offered another spot and more open for it.
Some characters are unlikely to leave Houston as TK will want to be close to husband Carlos, who's in the Texas Rangers. Judd is up in the air as he may want a fresh start but also loves the city, and hopefully, Grace will return.
Marjan is a possibility as she may want a new start in another city and try for a captain's job herself. Plus, her sparkly personality would be stellar to bring to another series and backed by her experience. Less likely is Paul, as he just got the lieutenant's job, so he wouldn't be moving on. But Mateo would make sense to move somewhere and connect to the other 911 show.
Maybe it'd be more logical for a new city to have a new cast and characters. Yet many fans will agree with Raisani's statement that the series ended too soon and so much left for its characters. So fans of 911: Lone Star can still hold out some hopes that just maybe there's a chance some characters can move on even when the series ends.
911: Lone Star Season 5 returns on Monday, Jan. 20 at 8/7c on Fox.
