The 911: Lone Star series finale made sure everyone got their happy ending, but we certainly were missing one face in particular. Despite not getting to get one final glimpse of Grace Ryder before the series ended, here’s how the show reached a conclusion for Captain Owen Strand and the rest of the 126 fire crew.
Almost immediately, the episode opened with the events of an emergency alert discussing an upcoming asteroid strike. A professor named Dr. Chalmers was discussing a nuclear reactor located on a campus university when he decided to leave to get a treat. However, the alert sent him back to the control room in order to prevent a possible nuclear reaction.
Unfortunately, he slipped on a piece of wet floor and he was critically injured just as the asteroid hit. While everyone survived the asteroid strike and the aftermath of a vicious shockwave, they were unable to communicate with dispatch due to the cell towers going offline.
Luckily, a timely product placement courtesy of Verizon came to provide coverage to dispatch so they could handle emergency calls. This is when Wyatt and Carlos, who was sent to help them before the asteroid hit, discovered the situation with the reactor.
What was the ending for the characters on 911: Lone Star?
While TK and Nancy came to a victim’s aid, a young teen Paul was mentoring came to see him and helped the patient so they could take care of the nuclear reactor situation. Before they could leave, Tommy came to join them.
The show scared fans earlier by having us think she was dying, due to the appearance of her long-deceased husband, Charles. But it appeared he was just coming to guide her. She was determined to help people once she saw what had happened on her phone.
As the team arrived, they tried to find Dr. Chalmers, who was still injured with a maintenance worker laying prone over him. Tommy noticed he had swelling on the brain, but they only had minutes to stop the reactor from melting down. They drilled into his skull to help the swelling go down, but this took a lot out of Tommy and she almost passed out.
Marjan, Paul, Judd, Mateo, and Owen all made it to the control room, but they were severely injured due to an explosion. The four of them huddled together to put pressure on their wounds as Owen struggled to make it to turn off the reactor.
The moments between the team were powerful and showed just how important they were to one another. They had become a family and built a bond in the five years they spent together. At first, the show made us think Owen didn’t survive, but as it turned out he was just living it up as the Chief of the NYFD.
In his stead, Judd took his rightful place as Captain, something that was years in the making. Unfortunately, we didn’t get to see Grace or hear a mention of her returning home, but we do hope that the Ryders will be reunited soon. We do wish we could have seen it somehow, though.

The show also ended with TK and Carlos building their family and adopting Jonah. TK decided to quit working to raise Jonah full-time. It was amazing to see them get their happy ending after being together for so long and working on finding time to be together with their jobs.
In other happy news, Mateo was able to keep working as a firefighter and was not deported and Marjan was pregnant when we got our final glimpse of her in the finale. While we do wish we could have seen more of Paul’s ending and gotten a hint of Grace coming home, it was a good ending to a long run for fans.
You can continue watching the entire series on Hulu and enjoy the magic of the show all over again.
