It looks like season 2 of 911: Nashville is going to give Cammie a nasty new boss with some secrets!

Like every 911 show, 911: Nashville has a key character in the dispatcher answering the emergency calls. Here, it’s Cammie Raleigh, played by TV veteran Kimberly Williams-Paisley. She’s both a dispatcher and connected as the widow of Blythe's (Jessica Capshaw) late brother. That brings her close in contact with the 113 team.

The first season had several challenges for Cammie, from the various emergencies to uncovering a plot to extort money from the Nashville government by hackers. That was a lot for Cammie already, but speaking to TV Insider, showrunner Rashad Raisani teased that season 2 would be even tougher for Cammie.

“Cammie is going to get a new boss from hell and put her through a great storyline that we’re doing.” When asked if this is a one-off episode or a recurring character, Raisani clarified, “Yeah, we think it may be somebody who joins who’s got some very twisted and dark secrets themselves that will unfold as the season goes on.”

That would be an intriguing idea, as the 911 shows have featured some less than noble characters working as paramedics, firemen, or cops. Who can forget 911’s Jonah, the paramedic so into being a hero that he nearly killed healthy patients so he could “save” them? There have also been a couple of dirty cops in the shows.

However, having a dispatch chief who’s got a dark side could be dangerous for both Cammie and the people in emergencies. It’s too easy to imagine the guy brushing off some calls for a secret agenda or, far worse, because he enjoys other people’s misery. Cammie would have to work hard to fight him off, which could risk her career.

It wasn’t all bad for Cammie as she hit it off with Nick Turner (Colby Bell), the FBI agent assigned to the hacking case. Their flirtation led to a date and the hope that this may let Cammie enjoy a real romance.

Raisani revealed he’d cast Bell in hopes he’d be a recurring face on the show and was impressed by how well he and Williams-Paisley connected on screen.

“We had always in our mind thought, well, her arc this season is going to be that she will start to open the doors back to moving on, which she did. And so we had in our minds that if they have chemistry, it might be a fun thing to just start to very incrementally let it bud and grow. And it wasn’t something that we said, well, she needs to have a dating arc. It was more, if it works. And I think that they had this real warmth with each other. He was kind of exactly what I think she needed to come out of her shell and out of her place of protection, self-protection. So we’re still figuring out where they’re going to go in Season 2, but I think that they’re just so delightful together. So I think there’s a really good chance that we’ll see more of him.”

Perhaps Cammie can reach out to Turner for help with her boss and whatever he’s hiding. Either way, fans of the show should expect more screen time for Cammie to show she’s as tough a heroine as anyone else on 911: Nashville.

911: Nashville is streaming on Disney+ and Hulu.
