We knew going into 911 season 8, episode 14 that there would be a major incident that would put lives on the line. The episode started with a vehicle crash that one mistake almost cost two lives.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for 911 season 8, episode 14.
Titled “Sick Day,” the episode started with a call to a vehicle collision. It was a big one that had multiple casualties, but the 118 got to work quickly. As Ravi called for the car to be clear, a patient told Hen that her daughter was in the car with her. This daughter is just three months old.
Bobby rushed back to find the baby under some boxes. Just as the car exploded, it looked like this would be the event that would lead to Bobby’s funeral that we have seen leaks for, but there’s no way that the show is going to kill Bobby, right? And definitely not in this way. Sure enough, Bobby made it out alive.
Ravi realizes one mistake could have cost two lives in 911 season 8, episode 14
With this one mistake, Ravi realizes what he did. He actually starts to think he should quit, but fortunately Buck is there to support him. They’re out for a drink, and it looks like Buck is finally finding a way to make friends with Ravi. Buck shares that mistakes happen.
I love that it’s Buck who gives this pep talk, because his daredevil ways have put people at risk before. He knows what it’s like to have some of that guilt afterward, but he doesn’t want Ravi to quit because of it. If Ravi was really in trouble, Bobby would have said something! This is a friendship I can get behind, and seeing Buck become a mentor is a great way to go about it.

A science experiment gone wrong in 911
Of course, we knew that the team would end up going into a biolab that was in the promo for the episode. It didn’t even take half of the episode for this, so I’m impressed. Usually with these “two-episode” or “three-episode” events, the event starts right at the end of one of the episodes.
The incident could have been avoided. One of the researches pushed the boundaries with her research and ended up being fired for it. There are rules and regulations around research for a reason, and this is one of those reasons.
After she’s fired, she knocks out one of her fellow research assistants and steals his card to get into the lab. The next we hear, the biolab is on fire, and the exotic virus is dangerous and deadly. The head of the lab doesn’t even think that the 118’s equipment will protect them, but Bobby says that they put their lives on the line for this.
One of the other research assistants is trapped in one of the rooms. The key card block has melted and the doors are made of material that can’t be broken into. Maddie has the blueprints, and she makes it clear that the only option is to go through the vents. I appreciate the way that Maddie is able to talk them through and remain calm. If this was Grace in 911: Lone Star, she’d probably be standing on the table to lead them through. I love Grace, but sometimes, we need the calm voice of Maddie.
Now we see how Buck is separated from the rest of the team. Buck is the one to get Roz out of the building when she needs to literally hold her breath to get out. Meanwhile, something in the lab blows up, forcing one of the doors to shut and trap Buck off from the rest of the 118. It turns out the lab is in automatic lockdown. Is there a way back in?

What happens to the 118 in 911 season 8, episode 14?
Buck can’t get through to the group, and Maddie makes it clear that if the emergency door has closed, there’s no way for anyone to get in or out of that room. Athena is called in to help with the situation on the outside of the building. This gets Buck to get decontaminated at least, but now Athena needs to figure out a way to get someone back inside and get Bobby and the team out.
Of course, the head of the biolab is more concerned about the virus that could be released to the public. Athena knows that this is dangerous and sometimes the lives of the few need to be sacrificed.
Back in the room of the explosion, Bobby, Chimney, and Ravi wake up from the explosion and they’re able to walk around. Hen has been injured, though, and Chimney has lost his mask so he’s now exposed to whatever is in the room. Hen’s injury is more serious, with her suffering a collapsed lung.
Supernatural fans will cheer at the help that is coming in — well, maybe. Alpha Vamp Rick Worthy comes in to help. He is Colonel Hartman with the U.S. Army, specifically for the infectious diseases unit. This is great news because he wants to get the 118 out, but he has to be honest at the same time. It’s probably not going to be in time to save Hen. He needs two hours and she only has 10 minutes.
Of course, Maddie immediately turns to Dr. Google to check up on the symptoms, but it’s not just about that. Maddie points out that if Chimney is infected and he cuts into Hen (because this is the only way to save her life) he could infect her. So, he’s going to have to talk Bobby through the surgery. I honestly thought Maddie was initially calling in a panic, but she thought of something nobody else had, and it reminds us that she was a highly capable nurse before she was a 911 dispatcher.
At least the Army manages to get eyes on the lab. They’re able to get the cameras up and running, so Athena and Bobby watch as Chimney talks Bobby through the surgery on Hen. This is a tense episode, and again, I’m so glad that this is actually taking up the two episodes.

Is Chimney infected?
The big question with all of this happening was whether Chimney would be infected or not. While everyone was on about an incubation period of a few weeks, we have to remember that there was a faster incubation period created at the start of the episode. Why didn’t the biolab guy mention this to the Army?
Well, just as Hen is saved thanks to Bobby’s work, Chimney starts coughing. Sure enough, he coughs up blood and starts bleeding from the nose.
Can we also remember though that Moira, the researcher who was fired, created a cure for the rat? Surely there is another one in the lab. Isn’t that what she put in a device earlier in the episode? Of course, this would mean the 118 would need to actually find her in this lab. Everyone has abandoned her, and she could be the one who helps to save Chimney, because I refuse to believe that Chimney is going to die considering he survived the metal bar to the head!
It takes this whole situation for Roz to speak up. I’ll give her credit — she was stuck in the building and then getting checked out, so I’m not surprised she didn’t mention anything. It’s the boss that gets me. Buck sends Ravi through to the room where the anti-viral is, but it’s already gone.
It turns out that Moira was never in there. She has escaped, and she has the anti-viral.
That’s where we end this episode. There are many questions as we get ready for the second part of the drama next week. This worked as a two-part event, and now I’m curious by how everyone in the locked room will survive.
The failed gender reveal (I really hate those things, so can they just stop?) doesn’t seem like such a big thing anymore!
