911 season 8 won't air a new episode tonight, and here's why

Thursdays are all about TGIT on ABC, with 911 kicking things off. There's a change to the plan tonight, and for the rest of 2024.

We would love to get stuck in with another set of TGIT episodes. There is some bad news tonight, Thursday, Nov. 28. There are no new episodes of 911 or the rest of the TGIT lineup.

Tonight is Thanksgiving, so it isn’t all that surprising to hear that there won’t be any new episodes. ABC knows not to put new episodes of top shows on tonight. The linear ratings will take a hit as families come together and spend time playing boardgames or watching the football rather than regular TV.

It’s not just about Thanksgiving, though. We have some bad news for those ready for new episodes of 911 season 8 in 2024.

911 season 8 is now on a lengthy break

As we previously reported, 911 season 8 has entered its lengthy break. There will be no more new episodes of the series in 2024. The show has started its winter hiatus, along with the rest of the TGIT lineup.

This is normal. We’re used to seeing TV shows go off the air this time of year. There are a few reasons for this, but it really comes down to scheduling needs. Cast and crews take time off over the holiday season and the networks need to put shows on hold to make sure there is time for the cast and crew to get back to work and get more episodes ready for us.

Plus, the holiday season is when people stop watching TV live. The kids are home and want to spend more time with families. There’s a focus on the evening events that happen in towns. This isn’t a time to stay in and watch TV.

9-1-1 - ÒConfessionsÓ - When a toddler falls down a pipe and becomes trapped, the 118 must rely on more than their skills to rescue him. Meanwhile, old wounds are opened when members of the 118 race to the aid of a man dealing with a divorce. THURSDAY, NOV. 7 (8:00-9:00 p.m. EDT) on ABC. 911 season 8 will be back in spring 2025

This is a longer break than most shows, though. ABC has opted for another three-month break for the TGIT lineup. 911 season 8 will return on Thursday, March 6.

This has become standard for 911, even when it was on FOX. It allowed for all episodes to be filmed. This also limits the breaks later in the schedule. A longer break right now is better for a more consistent schedule when the shows return. I can guarantee there will be plenty of people complaining about other shows because of the weeks off.

911 season 8 returns on Thursday, March 6 at 8/7c on ABC. Catch up on the series on Hulu.
