Dancing with the Stars fans will be getting a new episode a bit earlier this week, as ABC’s hit series is on the move to Monday night. That’s right, for the first time since the season 35 premiere, Dancing with the Stars will be airing on Monday night.
So what’s up with the change for this week’s episode? Well, Tuesday is Election Day, and like most of the broadcast networks, ABC will be turning over its primetime lineup to special Election Day coverage. Rather than pulling Dancing with the Stars from the lineup, ABC is moving the show to a new night and will bring fans a bit of Disney magic on Monday instead.
It’s definitely a welcome decision, as fans of other Tuesday night shows aren’t as lucky. For example, CBS has decided to pull the entire NCIS franchise from its lineup for the week with its Election Day coverage. Rather than skipping a week, we’ll get to enjoy Dancing with the Stars to start the week, and it should be an amazing episode.
This week, Cynthia Erivo will be joining the judges to score the Disney Night routines, which will bring viewers a night of unforgettable dances inspired by some of Disney’s biggest hits. It’s also the first time this season that the couples will be performing two dances, as they’ll be performing a solo dance as well as participating in a group dance.
First, the eight remaining couples will perform a Disney-themed routine with the following performances confirmed for Disney Night:
Maura Higgins and Mark Ballas: Jive to “You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!" from Peter Pan.
Connor Wood and Rylee Arnold: Waltz to “I See the Light” from Tangled.
Amber Glenn and Pasha Pashkov: Quickstep to “A Star Is Born” from Hercules.
Ezra Frech and Daniella Karagach: Samba to “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid.
Harry Shum Jr. and Jenna Johnson: Jazz to “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” from Mary Poppins.
Jenna Dewan and Val Chmerkovskiy: Quickstep to “Be Our Guest” from Beauty and the Beast.
Julia Stiles and Ezra Sosa: Paso Doble to “Satisfied” from Hamilton.
Tatyana Ali and Jan Ravnik: Contemporary to “Easy as Life” from Aida.
After their solo dances, we’ll see the eight stars compete for bonus points in the group dance led by our hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Julianne Hough. Team Slaytophia, consisting of Tatyana and Jan, Maura and Mark, Amber and Pasha, and Julia and Ezra, will perform to “Zoo” from Zootopia 2 with Alfonso, while Julianne will oversee Team Wildcat, which consists of Connor and Rylee, Ezra and Dani, Jenna and Val, and Harry and Jenna, and will take on “We’re All In This Together” from High School Musical.
By the end of the night, another couple will be eliminated, leaving just seven couples competing for the Mirrorball Trophy as Dancing with the Stars season 35 rages on. And the action will continue next week on Tuesday, November 9, as the show returns to its usual Tuesday night spot.
